Ha ha!! I felt completely violated!! I wanted to tell them "If you're gonna do American, then you put my syrup in a little ramekin on the side. And give me some butter while you're at it!"
And they certainly don't give you a bottle of syrup. If you want a "maple pot", it usually costs extra.

Same thing with most condiments... give me the damn ketchup bottle.

I always say, “And I’d like a LOT of ketchup.  Whatever you think is a lot, double it.  I’m American.”  Sometimes they go for it.  Sometimes I have to reiterate that I need 3 more little ramekins.  ;D

There's a Bills in Glasgow, and I agree... their pancakes are pretty good, although they are a bit miserly with the syrup.

'Fried breid' is definitely a thing in Glasgow.  Or it was, years ago...last time I was in a naff caff for breakfast.  :-\\\\

Why are they so stingy though??? Like, why can't I have the bottle of syrup and a refill on my cup of coffee?! They used more syrup on my pancakes than I ever would. So, they actually did themselves a disservice by taking syrup matters into their own hands! [smiley=laugh4.gif]

Did somebody say "chicken and waffles"?  I am from the home of the original chicken and waffles - Roscoe's in LA!!! Man, if there's some good chicken and waffles in the UK I will be a happy woman indeed. I may be taking quite a few day trips up to Scotland. Sounds like better food choices there.

We just had a discussion about chicken and waffles.

How do you prefer them?

Albatross is a weirdo and doesn't like sweet and savoury. We've determined she's lived here too long.

I've only had them once, in Edinburgh of all places and they were served with a sweet chili sauce.

The dish I get from Roscoe's is called the Carol C special... It's a fried chicken breast (bone-in/skin on) and a waffle. I love sweet and savoury. My favorite! Butter and maple syrup on the waffle. And I drown my chicken in hot sauce. Tee hee!

The sweet chili sauce sounds like it would be nice for the chicken. But I don't like when restaurants use chicken tenders vs. having the whole chicken breast. The whole breast with the skin and all is so much more flavorful and juicy!

As in Carol Channing? 😁

A Londoner from work has been trying to convince us that a bone in chicken breast is called a side breast. I have a feeling that's only with "kids" in London. Hahaha
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

Or Carol O. Connor?
I just hope that more people will ignore the fatalism of the argument that we are beyond repair. We are not beyond repair. We are never beyond repair. - AOC

Give me those endless refills on coffee I miss those and the pancakes and bacon have not found a decent substitute here after living here for 16 years except making your own pancakes at home and I’m lazy !!
