It's expensive. That's about it.

They only have a few things I buy there. Burrata cheese, Monterey Jack cheese, sheep's milk yogurt and a bigger jar of the sea salt flakes I buy.

Ooh, burrata... It's the best!

Waitrose is the only store locally that sells it and I have a Tesco, Sainsbury's, ASDA,M&S, Morrison's, Lidl and Aldi.

I would consider M&S to be more posh than Waitrose not based on their customers but quality of their food and speciality and holiday food variety. It is far superior to what you find in Waitrose.

I would say Waitrose is more exclusive as their cost keeps the riff raff away. Even their markdowns on short dated merchandise isn't much for value conscious shoppers.

Our town has M&S, Booths, Sainsbury's, Morrisons, and Aldi. There's a Tesco and an ASDA about 20 minutes away in Carlisle. So we do have a good variety of supermarkets nearby. M&S definitely has some nice holiday offerings. And yes, I find the quality of their food to be excellent. Everything I have ever purchased there has been very tasty so I find it worth the few extra quid.

My husband loves his Aldi though. So, I let him go get a few things from there if he wants!  [smiley=laugh3.gif]   But I told him if I'm gonna be doing a lot of the cooking then I need to get the things I need and he hasn't complained about my meals yet!  ;D

I used to own a plumbing company and Mr Fishburne was one of our regular customers.  ;)

Well I am curious now! What was the reason for the repeat calls?

I had a plumber friend who said he kept finding socks in a particular customer's line.

I just hope that more people will ignore the fatalism of the argument that we are beyond repair. We are not beyond repair. We are never beyond repair. - AOC

I have not been in a Waitrose yet... But I have heard people refer to it as posh as well.  Looks like the nearest locations to us are in Gretna Green, 30 miles away or in Hexham which is 54 miles away... So yeah, probably won't be shopping there.

What makes it "posh"?

The prices (higher than all the other stores) and that fact that they're only in certain well to do areas. Ocado is their delivery arm and you CAN get that most places. They also have higher end, more exclusive brands as well as normal ones, like 15 GPB small bottles of vanilla extract that I've not seen at any other stores. Ocado was the only place I could get American Kraft Macaroni and Cheese consistently for a few years, other than from Amazon. It was 2.40 GBP a box unless it was on sale!

( my current keyboard is american and I lack the pound symbol!)
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

If you're ever in merseyside, the Tavern Company in Allerton is an awesome texmex bar/restaurant, that does American breakfast. Coffee constantly refilled by wait staff, real bacon, and huge quantities of food  ;D

There is a definite class system alive and well in the UK.

At some point, you’ll be asked where you do your food shopping.  The person asking will have their judgey pants on!

Yep this! And they don't care that you shop there because you're allergic to life.

ALT156 gives you the £ symbol on a US keyboard.

I honestly wouldn't give someone like that, the time of day!

I'm proud of my 90% off buys at M&S and I will let everyone know how much money I saved!

He was having some remodeling done. Also, called us for minor repairs, etc.  :)

Socks in a drain line?? Sounds like sabotage!! Ha ha ha!

I've always just shredded mine and cooked from raw. The pieces are so small and thin that they cook up relatively quickly and easily. I'd use the same potatoes that you use for chips.  :)

And be sure to pat them dry before you put them in the pan. Helps them brown up...

Well, I guess I better get ready to be called posh!! LOL! Because I think I'm an M&S girl! If they only knew how much I spend at Whole Foods...  [smiley=laugh4.gif]

But seriously, I've noticed how the average working class person seems to speak harshly towards people with money. There seems to be a hard divide.

I've seen Kraft Mac n Cheese in Sainsbury's! I don't eat it often but every now and then I get a taste for it!
