Apparently (forgot to say earlier) there's a really good Bagel place in London. Think it might've been Jimbo that mentioned it before?

I miss bagel world and my chocolate chip bagel with peanut butter OR my everything bagel with veggie cream cheese! Or even something as basic as a french toast bagel.. UGH. This time I am DEFINITELY bringing bagels home from the US to freeze!

I change my mind on anything I said previously, proper bagels and proper doughnuts are what I miss the most from American breakfast (and the occasional funky pancake).

I'll have to keep that in mind about London so next time we take a trip there I can get some bagels to bring back home with me. It's only a 3 hour train ride...not so bad.

I've not tried them before so can't say from first-hand experience if they're good. Want to say they're found on Brick Lane??? Can somebody correct me here?

I've seen Kraft Mac n Cheese in Sainsbury's! I don't eat it often but every now and then I get a taste for it!

£15 for a bottle of vanilla extract?????

Vanilla is pricey now - the good stuff, that is. (Not the stuff with sugar and antifreeze in it.; ) ). It's such a shortage/hot commodity that on Madagascar, where the best comes from, farmers are having to guard their fields at night to keep vanilla thieves at bay. Several of the other "usual" suppliers have been hard hit by drought/bad weather. So, supply is limited. (Personally, I keep waiting for the Ugandan small-batch to come back into Waitrose - it's worth the extra coins. But it's been gone for over a year now, so I am not holding out much hope.)

Yes, it's a 24 hour bagel place on Brick Lane.  Featured in an episode of the apprentice.

I went once a few years back and it seemed fine to me.  Maybe I'm not much of a connisuer  (sp?) becuase I eat grocery store bagels all the time and don't care.  Once you've added cream cheese and smoked salmon and a few capers, it just doesn't matter.

They're my favorite! And I started using strawberry cream cheese on them. There's just something about that sweet and salty together...

I just ate them plain as I am not a cream cheese fan. Haha. But I loved them. Haven't had one in years though as so many places to go eat in the town my parents live in that I just didn't make that one happen in the 6 days I was there last time.
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

Wow... I had no idea. Guess it's been some time since I've baked. :-\\\\

I eat grocery store bagels because they're easily accessible... But where I grew up, there was a large Jewish population and so the bagels were always the very best made by the Jewish bakers. Nothing comes close to those!

A friend of mine is a NYC girl and she said they are "meh".  She tried each of them once and hasn't been back (as far as I know).

I bet they are better than anything else you can find here though! I knew it was bad when NewYork bagels (the pre-packaged brand) were the least awful of my limited options.  :\\\'(

I'm sure!  If I want a bagel, I'll eat one here.  They are "fine".  But when I have one in NYC, they cause me to moan.  LOL!

If only there was a French person you could ask about this....

I suppose beggars can't be choosers, huh? But I think there are probably some things I'll likely forego versus having a bad imitation of that thing.

Yeah! I should really stop ordering a hamburger on the rare occasion that we eat out at a restaurant.  I am always disappointed!

Now that is something I can totally cosign on! I have yet to find a good hamburger in Cumbria. I think they use a different cut of meat than we do in the US. The burgers are just dry and texturally wrong. Not to mention the silly law about not being able to cook a burger at the customer's desired temperature. I prefer medium, not well-done just short of burnt. Now, I pretty much only have burgers if I make them at home.

The best burger I had at a restaurant in the UK was in London. They got it right.

I just can't believe that's a law no matter how many jobs worth waitors tell me that. I'm calling urban legend on that.  Gbk and Byron cook it how you want.
