It depends on where you live. Where I am, takeaway in general is a let down in every way and the closest sushi restaurants are too much of a drive for mediocre food. There are some excellent restaurants, just not sushi ones. I miss having Pho 10 minutes away too.

I feel you... I'm an LA girl used to sushi and Starbucks on every corner. But, I know that not having these things at my disposal comes with the territory of moving to a small town in another country. It will be an adjustment but at least it's forcing me to cook at home more which is cheaper and healthier in the long run.

I haven't been very impressed with dining out or take out though there's a Thai restaurant in town that is good with fresh, tasty food.

I can get sushi, mochi and bubble tea in my small Scottish town. I just can't get good Mexican.

Truth. I'm from LA and used to REALLY GOOD Mexican food. I feel like I need to go help out the Mexican restaurant in my town. Why is the chicken in my fajita dry, hard and bland??? Also, can we please add some Mexican seasonings like chili powder and cumin?? I just want them to try harder. And ain't no darn chips on the menu in an authentic Mexican restaurant... unless they're tortilla chips.  :P

I always loved french fries and never thought I could ever be sick of them... Never say never. No, I don't want them on the side with my spaghetti bolognese!!!  [smiley=laugh4.gif]

They aren't even good chips. They are soggy and mushy.

I want good pom frites if I have to have chips.

What I found quite... unique... was when I had my first UK Christmas dinner and I had potatoes served three different ways at once on my plate. Ummm...

Ok, for American bacon you want pancetta (Tesco has a nice dry aged smoked one) or go to the polish shop and buy smoked baczek in a slab and cut it yourself.

UK streaky bacon and back bacon is not made from pork belly like US bacon is.

You will not get any fat rendered out in UK bacon so sorry southern ladies... unless you buy the pancetta or baczek,  then you can fill your jars with wonderful bacon grease.

UK streaky bacon is made from pork belly...it looks just like American bacon. You can even get it smoked.

Side bacon, or streaky bacon, comes from the pork belly.[9][1] It has long alternating layers of fat and muscle running parallel to the rind.[9][12] This is the most common form of bacon in the United States.[9]

It's not cured the same so it takes a bit of extra fat in the pan to cook well.

The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

I miss American breakfast. I want hasbrowns or home fries and amazing restaurant bacon, applewood smoked preferably. Or cinnamon roles as big as my head. And donuts!!! I would kill for a good donut. Hahaha

I like the patties but haven’t seen them here. May need to investigate eating breakfast outside the house again.
