I'll bring the food. You supply the oven. Lol

Sounds perfect!  :D

We'll just cook up an American smorgasbord! Burgers made with 100% beef, pancakes with butter and maple syrup, and drip coffee with as many refills as we like!

This would be worth the road trip from the south!

Our cooker works now, but takes about 20 minutes to come to temperature and only has the fan heating element at the back + grill above, so you have to turn things while they cook!

Well, that must be a hassle for you! Much easier to just get something from the chippy or fast food or something. But you do learn to work with what you've got.

Yeah, would be really fun to do an American food gathering/potluck. Would be a nice treat once in a while.  :)

No fast food for me... But I do use my instant pot quite a bit!

I'll be attempting the British classic toad in the hole for my husband tomorrow!

That's good. I'm not really a fan of fast food either. Occasionally, I get sucked in because my stepdaughter wants it. I try to pick the lesser of the evils.

I'm sure you'll have success with the toad in the hole. I should probably learn to cook some British classics as well. I don't want my husband to tire of American food!

I went to something like that. Somebody from Minnesota brought tater tot casserole. What the heck?

Look for a local meetup group in your area.  We do potlucks for all the big American days and the food is to die for!

Mmmm... That sounds nice as well.

I'll definitely have to try the bacon and green beans though. I think my husband would love that dish. And I'll probably be cooking a lot more at home once I'm living in England. So I know I'll need to try some new recipes to help keep it interesting.

It's a LOT cheaper than eating out. And with the food being so fresh, if you're near shopping you can go out a couple of times a week and pick what you'll want to have for meals for a few days.

The downside to that, however, is that the food chain here is very short. So if you see something on sale, don't assume it'll be around tomorrow as the supplies tend to be limited.

This is very true! If you see something that interests you grab it (and possibly a few extra if it's non perishable) as stock seems to change pretty regularly outside of staples. Also, fresh food goes bad faster here.

But tater tot casserole does sound like something an American would make and consume... LOL!!

Are there meet-up groups listed somewhere here on the forum? I have yet to see anyone around here who is living in Cumbria and not many in the North at all. Closest I've seen are in Scotland.

I've noticed that about the fresh food going bad very quickly... which I kind of guess is a good thing because you know it's very fresh and not a lot of added preservatives, etc. I think the produce there tastes much better than in the states. And I've also already learned how food items are sort of "here today, gone tomorrow." I started doing my shopping there in the morning as well while inventory is higher. I noticed at M&S that things disappear from them shelves quickly. Early bird catches the worm!

For fruits like berries, rinse them in vinegar water for about 10 minutes or so. It kills off the wee beasties and extends the life of the produce.

And if you use distilled white vinegar on a regular basis, make a note that most of our white vinegar here is actually white malt vinegar.

I get regular white vinegar at the polish shop.

Ooh, I'll have to see if there's a polish shop by me. I've been ordering off amazon for laundry and cleaning.
