Really depends on what you like.  You are more likely to enjoy some UK peanut butters if you like Smuckers Natural in the US.

Otherwise I am afraid that brands like Sunpat and others are not quite the same taste as say Jif or Skippy.  Though you can buy Skippy here just in much smaller jars and at higher prices.

We use TESCO whole nut and smooth,  and our fav is at Sainsbury's -It's called Whole Earth.

Hope that's helps.

Thanks! I usually eat Peter Pan while I'm in the states. Last time I was in England I bought an English brand at ASDA and it was gross.

If you like Peter Pan then you will likely have to buy Skippy here or bring huge jars of Peter Pan with you from home.

As I understand it, it's all wrapped up in EU ingredients regulations that turns pb into an abomination.  A significant downside to being an expat.

I suggest  http://www.skyco.uk.com/products.asp?cat=7

I cheated and brought a huge tub of Skippy back from the US last time I was there.  It's all my mother had, usually I am a Jif girl myself!

I have to admit I have not found a peanut butter in the UK I like!  Oh well.  At  least there is Skyco like Garry suggested!

VP, you can buy Skippy in the UK at a regular supermarket?

I guess I'm just going to have to pack some! I'm only staying for six months this trip, but the people I'm staying with love American peanut butter (they've come to the states several times) so I doubt it will last long.

I just have to reply to this one.  ;D  Being a lover of peanut butter and not caring for the products here and not willing to pay the prices for the American imports.  You could always do what I do, and that is make your own.  It is dead easy and requires 4 ingredients.  Peanuts, peanut/groundnut oil, sugar and salt.  I roast the shelled peanuts that I buy here because I do not think they are roasted long enough.  They have a raw taste to me at least.  Put the peanuts in the food processor and grind to the consistency you want.  While the processor is still running, drizzle in the oil for emulsification/blending.  Add salt and sugar to taste.  I use granulated splenda myself.  I also leave the skins on which makes the finished product a darker color, but adds fiber and a nice toasted flavor.  You can make all kinds of nut butters this way, almond, cashew etc....  Keep the finished product in the refrigerator to prevent separation.   ;D

I have to admit that I actually like Sunpat better than any other brand including the ones in the States (which if you live near St Johns Wood you can find at the local grocer)...but I do tend to like different stuff from most people (for example I HATE fast food stuff including Taco Bell)...

I'm happy with Sainsbury's brand.  Can't imagine spending more than necessary on a regular basis for peanut butter... ::)

I must be one of the strange ones since I like peanut butter better here.

Lidl's has nice peanut butter and is less than a £ a jar.

In the states I buy the Laura Scudder's natural crunchy peanut butter but there is nothing like that here. The brit pb uses palm oil mixed with roasted nuts etc. instead of peanut oil. Why would they not use peanut oil in peanut butter. Hello! Bunch of friggin' geniuses over here. To my palette, the palm oil gives it a funky (decidedly non-peanutty) taste.

You can buy the huge jugs of Skippy at Costco. But you'll find the midget size at Sainsbury or Tesco. After years of eating Scudder's I can't eat that stuff, though - too sweet. (Now that I think about it, I don't quite understand how it's too sweet for me cuz I have a huge sweettooth.)
