I love your post... Thanks for sharing it with us. I'm not living there just yet but even in my times visiting, I miss certain things.

Like, I really miss buttered popcorn (with extra butter) at the cinema aka movie theater. I don't want no sweet popcorn, dammit.

I miss movie butter like mad. 😩

So much so that my hubby bought me a little silicon popcorn popper (he doesn't eat popcorn much) and I drown it in real butter. Haha.
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

Not buttered... just salty. But mostly only have the sweet. And I don't think it's fresh popped either. It's shipped in in big bags.  :-\\\\
What? You've got to be joking!

But that makes sense because my husband boaks at the smell of popcorn and I questioned how he could stand taking his son to the cinema because of the popcorn smell and he was like, "Never smelled it before." I thought he just being weird.

Just a couple of days ago my husband and I were in Tesco when he saw a jar of popcorn seeds in the American section.  He goes, "Ooohhh, what is this?"

Me: Ummm... popcorn seeds.

Him: Oh. I've never seen them sold like this. How do you make it?

Me: (thinking, where the hell am I living?) In a popcorn maker.

Him: Oh. We don't really use those over here.

Me: Still thinking, Where the hell am I living?

I've never been to a movie here. They don't sell buttered popcorn?

And yes Rick, give me your sausage recipe. Does it have fennel? Please say it has fennel!

Makes a fairly respectable Italian Sausage. Thanks to food.com! Pizza with no Italian Sausage??! It’s best when refrigerated overnight so the flavors have a chance to really blend.

Ok, easy enough.  I'll pick up some pork mince and give it a go!

I made this pizza tonight. Wheat free and low carb, 100% fantastic!

When I'm there, I buy the kernels and pop my own old school style on the hob in a pot with a cover. And then YES, I melt butter and the popcorn swims in it! LOL!

Nope, it's another UK thing! No fresh popped popcorn. I actually saw them empty the big bin-sized bag full of already popped popcorn into the popcorn display case.  :-\\\\

The first purple Skittle is a startling moment! And it makes eating them in a dark theatre like playing Russian roulette.

I've never had Skittles here.  I might need to buy some tomorrow to see about these purple ones myself...

They sound intriguing.  :D

I can no longer tell the difference between grape flavour and blackcurrant flavour.  To me, they're the same.

Similar thing happened to me, I was having coffee in the Oracle in Reading next to the theatre and they started unloading these giant 10 pound bags of stale popcorn to sell inside.  I was this close to administering a dose of American freedom and dumping all of it in the river.

My Tesco sells jiffy pop in the pie tin cooker thing and I love showing off to my kid's friends by making that.  They have no idea what to expect!  It helps that my kids are terrified because the first time I did it, I opened the thing incorrectly and popcorn got onto the stove and caught fire from the burner.  Popcorn is really flammable.

If you're able to find popcorn "seeds" (I've always called them kernels...?), you can just put some into a brown paper bag, roll the top of the bag down a few folds and secure it firmly while leaving plenty of room for the bag to expand, then microwave on high 'til the popping slows.  Then take it out of the microwave, give the bag a little shake, carefully open the top and add your own salt, butter, or whatever you want.

This doesn't give you the tongue-destroying bag of death to lick in the end*, but it does give you cheap servings of microwave popcorn.  And no additives or dubious substances, if you're concerned with thst sort of thing.  Plus, paper is widely recycled.

*We all lick the microwave popcorn bag, right?  That's not just me..?

And that's my ghetto microwave popcorn tip too.

Rosie, Costco sells Skippy (smooth and crunchy).  Do you want me to send you a crunchy one?

Also I live (literally) next door to an Italian deli.  4 types of provolone!

Let me know if you need me to hook you up.

I thought it was a regional thing!  I question all my language, now... I can't believe how much I used to take speaking for granted.
