My BF has not told me any stories, but there's a train station right by his work, so I think he has no need to go anywhere in Huddersfield but work and the train station!

There are 2 real ale pubs on  Huddersfield station.  Kate says Head of Steam is better, but I prefer Kings Head.  Love that the sign outside depicts Jimi Hendrix instead of some old king  :)

The outskirts, but the town center??

Yeah, the 2 on the station, the Sportsman, Rat & Ratchet, The Grove, Mallinsons Taphouse…  i'd say those were all town centre, or at least they seem that way to a visitor.  I don't think I've ever been to any of the pubs in the 'outskirts'.  I'll be there again at new year... can't wait!!

Thanks! Fair enough, the winter here isn't for everyone! This last one wasn't even for me. :/

I would love to keep skiing. I've been contemplating what to do with my rollerskis/ski gear. Sounds like I should bring them! Hopefully, I do not end up filing them in the list of things I shouldn't have brought! [smiley=laugh4.gif]

Thank you for all the resources! I'll get in contact with those groups when the time comes! I used to do marathons, but I like the shorter races better now. I don't really race anyway. I just enjoy skiing in the woods as part of an event. ;)

If you are ever down in London on a Saturday morning - come by Hyde Park at 9 am. There is a full van of loaner gear and we all scoot around the park for an hour and a half or two and then head for coffee + cake. Visitors are always welcome, and we get all sorts, from French national champions to Norwegian students, to Germans on holiday. Also - if your gear doesn't make the cut - Iain sells off prior season equipment/loaner stuff usually in June, but sometimes in January as well, which can be a good deal to pick up some reconditioned equipment (he replaces all the bearings/wheels/repairs) at a good price.

Oh fantastic! I'll keep that in mind. Would love to meet you and other rollerskiers! I'm also a fan of post-ski cakes. ;) Good to know on the re-furb gear. That might make a decision easier. Do you know what brand it is? Marwe is what the majority of people here have. A lot of my Michigan friends have V2s.

Out of context, this sounds like it could be some kind of Polish treat (my FIL is really active in the Anglo-Polish Society group in Bristol, and I end up doing a lot of website work for them).

By 'the outskirts' I mean places like slaithwaite, honley and marsden, hepworth... places like that... which I know aren't 'outskirts' to locals, but would be to a visitor, particularly a foreign one!

Had totally forgotten about Rat N Ratchet!! Haven't been there for years. Rat brewery beer is now found quite far and wide! (and by that I mean I've seen their beer in Leeds and York).

I made the mistake of pronouncing it phonemically, of like it looks, the first time!! Many people laughed!! Apparently there are two common pronunciations?? oh and they have a Morris dancing club.

Off to the Hudd now (as it happens) to visit the in-laws!! No drinking though... not while I try to grow this little jalapeno.

I pronounced Scarborough like Simon and Garfunkel and my BF laughed for about five minutes. Then we visited his grandparents and he told them and they laughed for quite a while as well. BF dislikes the French, but I might have to point out that leaving out half the letters is very French ;)
