Not sure if this belongs here or in the "food" chat since it's related -

Where in this country (Scotland) does one go to get kitchen knives professionally sharpened? (Yes, I can Google, but I'm really looking for a recommendation of a place someone has used in Glasgow.  ;D    )

It depends on whether you're using the knives for food preparation or to aid your very specific set of skills.

There used to be a place at Broomhill Cross that I used to go, but I have a feeling it might have closed down...

I was struggling to use my sharpening stone... just couldn't get the angle right, or something, but I bought one of these and it works great!

I used to send my kitchen knives off for sharpening but bought one of these and I’m happy with it.  I haven’t mastered sharpening serated-edges but works fab on the others.

Yeah, I have no idea how to do serrated ones.  I just chuck those out when they get worn.

Huh. Well, they've got them for 10 pounds on Amazon, so I'll give it a try I guess.  The knives I brought are good ones, so no chucking them out.  :)

Got the anyknife sharpener. Made a HUGE difference on the Ikea knives. Thanks. (Haven't put the German knives to it yet, but assume it'll work as well with them.)

Excellent... glad it worked for you.  I think it's great, and so much easier/quicker than that stupid sharpening stone I paid a lot for.

I have never been much good with those sharpener stones. I always took my knives to be professionally sharpened. I still remember the last time in the States. Little old lady used to set up her cart in front of the local grocery store. So I'd go to pick up my knives from her, and she'd be reading Steven King novels or something along those lines. She was a little...odd. But did a good job on the knives.

watch those AnyKnife sharpeners, they take a lot of metal off. OK for cheap knives but would not put a good  Sabatier through it .
