banking, was not sure what catigory to put in!
« on: August 30, 2018, 11:16:51 AM »
I was excited to learn that Bank of Scotland only requires residency and that you have a job to open an account! I have just started my job but they have no problem opening an account for me so I may provide it to my new employer. I guess the question in here is did anyone find it hard to keep your American account? I have been told by Bank of America that I have to keep $1000 or have direct deposit not to get a fee. Unfortunately I cannot meet this so it looks like I will have to close my account. Funny, this has made me the most sad about being here and not having iced tea at every restaurant! Ha! Oh and lack of salsas! Ha!! Anywayyyy...if anyone knows a way around this please let me know!   Just a pep talk for anyone stressed about finding work, it will happen, having to wait for your NINo is hard and gaining the trust of hiring someone that is not local can be a challenge but you can do it! Please make sure that you and your spouse budget for sometimes a longer wait to get a job. My husband and I did but barely! Thank god I got this job now! Phew! It is tough but hang in there! xx

Congratulations on the job, and the bank account although you don't actually need a job to be able to open an account here.  :)
If I were you, I'd try to find the minimum amount that BOA are looking for you to keep on deposit. I'd be lost without my US bank and credit card accounts.
