ILR(M) - Final document check
« on: September 04, 2018, 10:58:29 PM »
Ok, it's been a long time coming, but I finally have our entire application assembled ahead of our ILR(M) Sept. 10th appointment at the premium processing centre. I'm the applicant, my husband is the sponsor. We're using Cat A salaried employment for the financial requirement, his salary only. Here's a run down of what we've got. Please let me know if there's anything missing!

Application filled out, declarations signed

Payment confirmations and premium processing appointment letters

2 recent passport photos of me, 1 recent photo of spouse, both with our names printed on the back

7 months of pay-slips: Feb 28th - Aug 31st

6 months of bank statements, with the salary payment highlighted in each :
17 Feb - 16 March
17 March - 16 April
17 April - 16 May
17 May - 16 June
17 June - 16 July
17 July - 16 Aug
Temporary Statement from bank showing 17 Aug up through today's date, with his 31 August salary payment highlighted

Letter from the bank confirming that these bank statements are authentic and that we are the joint account owners.

Letter from my partner's employer confirming his employment, start date in 2017 and annual salary.

2 P60s - 2017 and 2018

Land Registry document showing we own our house

Life in the UK Pass letter

Children: 2 passports (both are British)
Letters from their school/ nursery confirming their address
Birth certificates for each

Correspondence:
April - July 2016: letter addressed to each of us from HM Revenue and Customs
Aug - Nov 2016: Bank statement addressed to me, Hospital appointment letter addressed to him
Dec - March 2016/17: Council Tax Bill (addressed to both of us)
April - July 2017: Immunisation report from hospital addressed to me, Electricity and Gas bill addressed to him
Aug - Nov 2017: Letter from the bank addressed to me, Electricity and Gas bill addressed to him
Dec - March 2017/18: Council Tax Bill (addressed to both of us)
April - Aug 2018: Letter from HM Revenue & Customs addressed to me, Electricity and Gas bill addressed to him

My passport and biometric residence card

Marriage Certificate (do we need our marriage certificate? We were already married when I entered the country; in section 12C it says you only need to provide your marriage certificate if you were granted leave to remain and entered the country as an unmarried or same-sex partner and then subsequently got married. Should I bring my marriage certificate anyway?)

...and I think that's it.

Any further thoughts greatly appreciated!! Thank you!! So nervous for next Monday now, but hopefully I have it all assembled.

You are actually applying for ILR using form SET(M), not ILR(M)  :)

Ideally you shouldn't have highlighted the bank statements, but I don't worry, many people do that and it's not a reason for refusal. It's just that they should not be adulterated in any way.

The bank statements and pay slips must both cover the same 6 month period, although being over at either end is fine. Are the pay slips originals? If they are printed from online, they must be accompanied from a letter from the employer stating that they are authentic.

The employer's letter must state all of the following,
(b) A letter from the employer(s) who issued the payslips at paragraph 2(a) confirming:
(i) the person’s employment and gross annual salary;
(ii) the length of their employment;
(iii) the period over which they have been or were paid the level of salary relied upon in the application; and
(iv) the type of employment (permanent, fixed-term contract or agency).

If you have a mortgage on the house, you should include the most recent mortgage statement.

You will need your husband's passport and he should attend the appointment with you.

You definitely need your marriage certificate and any divorce certificates if applicable.

What are the actual dates on your correspondence? The way you have presented it, it would be possible for items only to be one month apart. The items should be evenly spread and where you have individual items, they should be from the same month.

The payslips are print outs, but the letter from his employer confirms that they are accurate. Hmmm, the correspondence is not from the same month in all cases.

Here's how the correspondence dates break down:

HM Revenue and Customs: 2 letters addressed to both of us, both dated April, 2016.
Bank statement for me (no date on the statement, but it covers 17 July to 16th August) and hospital letter to him, dated 5th Sept. 2016.
Council Tax to both of us - March, 2017.
Immunisation record to me, May 2017, Electricity and gas to him, May 2017.
Bank letter to me, Oct 2017, Electricity and Gas to him, Oct 2017
Council Tax to both, March 2018
HM Revenue and Customs to me, April 2018, Electricity and gas, April 2018.

So there is only one time it doesn't line up (2nd line). I really hope that's ok. We really struggled to get the correspondence to line up.

And yes, he's absolutely attending, with his passport. We can add our last mortgage statement to the land registry folder.

Thank you!!

It's not bad but do you have anything recent instead of your April stuff? March and then April is really too close together. You don't even need to take out April but I'd definitely want something from August if possible.

Do not use folders and do make a complete copy of all the evidence to give to them too. That will make them happy.  :)

We're trying to scrounge up some August 2018 correspondence. There's not much to me at all, though. Do you think a letter from Legal & General might work? That's the only correspondence I've received recently. I have a bank letter from back in May, but that doesn't help much. We're going to use his July gas and electricity statement as well.

I can make a copy of all the evidence, too. Do they want the copies as well?

And if they don't want folders, how are we supposed to keep everything organised? It just goes in one big pile at the back of the application?

Thank you!

I think the legal and general letter would be fine. They do want copies of all the evidence. If you don't provide them, they will have to make them themselves which is an inconvenience for them and means your wait will be longer.
You can use a document wallet or large envelope to keep everything together for the journey there but you will be asked to remove it and you just hand over your paperwork. You should have one pile with all the originals and one for the copies.

WE GOT IT!! With no fuss at all! My partner was there in case they wanted to interview us, but they didn't even ask any questions. We just had to kick around Croydon for nearly 4 hours while they processed it, then collected our documents back. Yay! Indefinite Leave to Remain!!!!!!!!! What a relief!

Thank you all SO much! I don't know how I would have managed without this forum. You are all an amazing source of information.

Now we're off to pop some champagne. Cheers!

Yeah, they don’t interview you, you just hand over the documents and wait for a decision :).

My biometric residence card arrived today in the mail. It's a thing of beauty!!

However, why does it say it's valid until 31/12/2024? What happens then? Please don't tell me I have to do this entire process over again! I thought this was indefinite!

Awesome :).

No, you don’t have to do it again (unless you leave the U.K. for more than 2 years), but you do need to renew the BRP card every few years. I thought it was every 10 years, but yours is only valid for just over 6 years. It’s like with UK driving licences where the licence stays valid but you have to renew it to update the photo every 10 years.

Many people don’t actually get to the stage where they have to renew it because they usually apply for U.K. citizenship long before it expires, and the BRP is destroyed when you are granted citizenship.
