Hi this might sound silly but i really need to know if a DVD player on a PC or Laptop from the U.S. will work in the UK ?
Hubby is thinking of bringing a Laptop or PC with DVD and i was not sure if you could play UK dvd's on U.S. dvd player ( laptop or PC )

thanks

The US uses Region 1 Dvd's as standard and the UK is region 2--- they don't interchange unless you have a multiregion dvd player. So the general answer is if you go to blockbuster you can't watch the rented dvd on a typical US player-- you can however order region 1 dvd's easily online to view on your US player (of course this means buying vs. renting).

So the best thing is to check if the laptop is a multiregion player!

i put a uk dvd into my US laptop and it gave me something like 3 chances to watch a UK DVD before not letting me do it again. I'm not sure if it's a software thing, but it let us watch it.....then said i had 2 more chances to watch a region 2 disk in it and that's it!  strange i know.

Yeah it'll work. Do you have XP on it or what? If it's XP (and I think it's basically the same for the other windows versions) go to Control panel - System - Hardware - Device Manager - DVD/cd drive. Then click on the tab for DVD region. You'll be able to switch it over to play dvd's sold in the euro region. You can change it back and forth between regions a set number of times (3 or 4) however.
