I do know that is a pretty 'sensitive' type of examination, but really!?!
It seems to me they're really dumbing down medical stuff these days. I know there is a big push to 'use plain English' - but there is plain English and there is talk to 'every adult like a 5 year old'.
This! This gets on my last nerves! I feel like medical professionals these days are really pandering to the handholding of patients. I get that some patients are nervous, or scared, or have phobias of medical situations and that's fine - I am one of those people with nerves, but I deal with it in humor.
I had my first smear test a few years ago and the nurse asked me if I needed more time to think about the procedure and if I wanted a chaperone. Uh, hello? Do you really think I want
someone else in here for that? I was literally like, "Nah, that's ok. Just stick the speculum up there and let's get on with it."
She was not amused. To be honest I was embarrassed by what I said, myself, but something about nerves with me just flicks the brain filter off.
I dunno why she was trying to play to my sensitive, delicate lady feelings.
