Arachnid with a twist of irony?
« on: October 05, 2018, 03:29:34 PM »
I just found this... I have never had a spider beg to be put outside before!  He (she?) was all, "Hey, the hard part is done, okay?  So could you just open the door and let me go?"

I think I read somewhere that those spiders have evolved to live indoors and don't like to be put outside.  They are also almost blind and normally don't travel more than 6 ft their whole life.  They also utilise a hydraulic pressure system to extend their legs, that's why the default position of a dead spider is on it's back with legs contracted.  No pressure left to extend those legs.

They can also last a long time after falling into a cat's water bowl! I've fished several out recently that lived to tell the tale!  :)

My kitty finds them to be too much fun. We've found a lot but none survived. :(

My husband had a bad day on Wednesday.  First, he tried to give his spider buddy a bath, but the spider didn't fare well with the bath.  Then that night, he went into the kitchen wasteland (the "real" kitchen, as opposed to utili-kitchen) to put some chips in the fryer and admired an awsome spider.  But he didn't notice the spider move across the room and when my husband stepped back, splosh!  Two in the same day.  He was so sad.

Aww! Poor little guy. I admit those massive British spiders freak me out when they show up. But honestly, I think they're amazing creatures and I always try to relocate them if I can.

I tried to dump it outside, but it had established enough web in the glass to cling to and would have none of it.  Hung on for dear life, so I gave up and brought it back inside.  Then it started trying to crawl up the side of the glass, so I just let it go in the lounge.  I guess Jimbo is right.  They're indoor spiders.

Oh yeah, they are thirsty as well.  That's probably why they end up in the cat's bowl
