My new medical problem
« on: October 07, 2018, 08:59:21 PM »

I've just started treatment for Obstructive Sleep Apnea.  I've been to the doctor for my snoring before, but suddenly it got way worse and I started to get really tired at work and driving.  So I got referred in July and haven't been able to get an appointment.  I finally paid for a sleep study over the Internet and found I was walking myself up almost 80 times per hour!

On Friday I got my new machine and mask, I'm sure the ladies will love it according to the picture

Tldr : I've got the same disease as Jerry Garcia and Princess Leia.

And me, only I can't use the BiPAP I was given because of my other problems.  So I just use oxygen and hope for the best.  Wheee!

In spirit...  I’m not climbing into bed with you.  Tami, are you free?

Wow! How does the internet sleep study work? I think my husband needs to do it. He's a heavy snorer and I hear him stop breathing sometimes during the night.

I hope you'll get some relief though and will start to feel more rested.

Perhaps I could buy her dinner first?  A can of Vienna sausages and a Cheerwine?

It was easy as pie, but cost £200.  You pay, and then they send you a watch like thing that straps to your wrist.  You wear it overnight and then mail it back.  A few days later, you get a report of the results in the mail.

I get the impression that sleep Apnea is pretty easy to diagnose, but getting it done through the NHS is ridiculously difficult.

I'd suggest you don't even ask him, just get it and tell him he's got no choice.  If he's just a snorer, then fine, the results will show it.  If he's actually got sleep Apnea, then he'll be convinced by the numbers to get it treated.  And the list of symptoms that are so obvious.

Thanks for that last bit, I already feel significantly better and it's only been a few days.

Thanks for the info! He is always tired... even after 8 or more hours of sleep. He thinks that it's because of some medication he is taking but the meds he takes are generally not known to cause fatigue or tiredness. I'm definitely going to get this sleep test for him.

Glad you're already feeling the positive results! That is encouraging.  :)

I'm no doctor, but Always being tired was the thing that decided it for me.  Waking up with a headache and getting up to pee 5 times a night are also symptoms that were obvious.

Now that I've experienced it, I  wish I had gotten a machine years ago when I probably didn't have sleep apnea but just snored a lot.  My snoring has caused years of grief for my wife.  If I knew then that the machine isn't really that bad I would have just done it.

I think bacon and donuts will do it.  ;D

Poor woman, she's not even here to defend herself.  Love you Tami!

I could Google it, but I'd rather ask here... what is Cheerwine?

I think bacon and donuts will do it.  ;D

Hehe... I suspect she will respond to this with her usual grace.  Tami can handle anything.  Even a re-energized Jimbo.
