Boston to UK
« on: October 08, 2018, 05:32:28 PM »
Hi everyone,
My name is Chris and I'm currently residing in Boston, Ma. My long distance partner just moved to the UK for a brand new job, luckily he's a dual citizen. Not so lucky for me because I'm not trying to deal with the hassle of getting over there. :-(
Will be so nice chatting and getting to know y'all on this "journey" lol. I'm sure many of you have been in a similar boat, so I'm looking forward to hearing how you made it!!!

Sincerely,
Chris

Welcome to UKY!  I used to live in MA, though not in proper metro Boston - more the nebulous greater Boston area.

Hi Chris! Welcome to the forum. You're right, we've all had to deal with different situations and obstacles to get to live in the UK... But many of us did it and so can you! Just have to have a bit of patience. Good luck with your journey and ask for all the help you need here. Everyone is great!  :)

Just noticed under your profile pic that you're a fellow Michigander. I was born and raised there. Lived on the west side of Detroit until I was around 7 years old. Then we moved to Southfield. I went to Southfield-Lathrup High School. Left Michigan for Los Angeles in 1998.

I try to get back out there every couple years or so. I gotta get my Buddy's Pizza, Pizza Papalis, Coney Island, and cider mill fixes!! Ha ha!! We were in Detroit for a visit back in July to see Radiohead. Stayed at a hotel downtown and it was great. I hadn't been back in a few years prior to that so I was completely amazed at how much downtown has changed. I wish it would have been so cool like that when I was living there.  ;D

It's been a few years since I've been back to Detroit as well but still have many close friends that live there and Wow, it has changed SO much. Still need to get back before I head over to the UK. Luckily, I'll have plenty of time.... :-/ lol

And there's nothing better than Buddy's pizza and Cider mills!!!! :-)

Also, thanks for the warm welcome everyone!!! After conversing with a few others, over the past couple days, my partner and I have decided to get married before I even apply. So I three weeks I'll have a shiny new ring to show everyone!! :-)

Congratulations on your upcoming marriage!  The UKVI have a way of bringing relationships closer (sometimes sooner than the people involved would've liked, but it works out alright in the end).  I'm glad you're going for the easier route.  My husband and I stuck to the fiancee plan, and it slowed us down for our 5-years-to-ILR path by a few months, and cost an extra visa application of fees and stress.  I don't recommend my way.  So, yay for you!  :)

Hi Chris,

I'm brand new here and about to make a move from the Cape to the UK to join my husband permanently (with any luck). It's so nice to see local people with similar experiences. I wish you luck with everything!

Not the OP but where on the cape are you from? My aunt and uncle live in Barnstable in the house that was my grandparents second home and I spent so many summers there as a kid. I have some of the best memories down there and seeing the Hyannis Mets play.
