Help with the foreign bank account declaration
« on: October 09, 2018, 09:05:20 AM »
Hello everyone! I'm new to this board (I've been around on the visa board) and have a question about the foreign bank account declaration form associated with filing my US taxes.

During 2017, my husband (who is British, doesn't have a US SSN) was doing a studentship which meant large chunks paid into the account a few times a year. This meant our account bumped up above the threshold for declaring a foreign account. I realised when I filed my US taxes earlier in the year, but then we had to refile for my UK visa, and I just totally forgot to deal with it.

I have a few questions (I'm doing the online PDF form)

We just have the one, joint checking account. Should I put myself as the "Primary holder", to make things less complicated?

You're a USC, joint owner of a UK bank account, filing the FinCEN Form 114. Spouse (co-owner) is not a USC.

For Part I, Filer Information, complete with all your details.

For Part III, Information on Financial Account(s) Owned Jointly:
Under Account Information, list the details of the account.
Under Principal Joint Owner Information, list your spouse's details. See instructions for no TIN and denoting (spouse) on line 26.
