:)

I'd agree. But when improvising on the spices (aka things aren't available) a small amount of tomato sauce does nice things for color and acidity.

I love a can of Stagg Chili.   ;D

I'm telling you people, I am a seriously classy chick.   ;D

Add enough onions and cheese to it and it'll do.

Wolf Brand is the best canned chili I've had. But I haven't found it here yet.

My husband likes it with rice while I like it with cornbread. We alternate between rice and cornbread (when I can be bothered to make it lol).
Where do you get cornbread..or cornmeal for that matter? I have some from the US and know I can buy them on the US food websites but would like to find a local source!

Well I hope you enjoy it.  :)  You may have to tweak it up a bit with more cumin, garlic, paprika... it's one of those things you have to kind of fiddle with until it's to your taste.  Cook it until the beef shreds, though. Makes a nice filling in a warm tortilla with some cheese.  I originally got it out of a book of recipes for diabetics. Very Low Carb.  ;D

When I first moved here I was a lodger in an East London semi, my landlords made chili that was full of mushrooms and served with rice. To say the least, this Arkansas girl was puzzled. Then a couple of years later in the Midlands, a work colleague invited us to dinner and what did she serve but chili with rice.

So yeah, it's a thing.

I don't like any chili mixes over here and just make my own Deep South Tex-Mex approximation.

I am from Buffalo, NY originally. It is frigid there in the winter and chili is absolutely one of my favorite things.

I have a great recipe I use, using homemade tomato pasta sauce as a base and the El Paso chili seasoning to spice it up.

I also make my own homemade corn bread. It is a favorite with my in-laws here in the UK. I actually get my cornmeal from Morrison's around here in Leeds.

If anyone has a great homemade cornbread recipe they would like to share please pass it on! I managed to find cornmeal at a natural food store here and would love to make some. I have searched for a few but a recipe tested by friends is always good to know :)

I hope to get back to you soon on this.  A woman I graduated highschool with shared her recipe with me a while ago, but I don't have an oven right now, so I misplaced the recipe (lack of use).  I've asked her to share it again, and will let you know if she does.  She's from Arkansas, so it'll be good.

Can you share your cornbread recipe?

Fellow buffalo gal here, I am not missing the lake effect snow but I did miss all the fall pumpkin and apple picking events at the farms.

I've made this one before. I find it too sweet (I was raised on cornbread that was not sweet). But several people I know like a sweeter cornbread, so here ya go!
