So, no more going to what passes for a Taco Bell in Glasgow! Sticking to Five Guys on St. Vincent Street for a decent hot dog, instead.
I'm sorry your Taco Bell experience sucked so bad! I really hate when an American import doesn't live up to expectations.
I had a similar experience the one time we went to a Five Guys in Cambridge. The fries were
awful, and that's what I was looking forward to most. I kept going on about how good they were before we got there, but then they were legitimately inedible! And my husband didn't know how to order, and I didn't even think about advising him... so I ordered my burger ("single with lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, mayonnaise and ketchup"), and stepped aside for him to order. He ordered a double cheeseburger... I didn't notice that he didn't specify anything else because I was distracted by the soft drink fountain... We get our food, and mine comes out with all the stuff on it while he gets a double-stack of burger patties with cheese on a bun, no other toppings. He was so sad, but British so he couldn't go back up to the counter to ask for toppings or even any sauces to put on it. I offered to do it for him, but British, so obviously that was not an option. So he ate his dry and boring cheeseburger, and we didn't eat the awful fries (of course, we couldn't complain about those, either, because he's still British), and I couldn't enjoy
my burger because my husband looked so miserable. And the place looked like a tornado had struck, PLUS the music was really REALLY loud and it all felt very unpleasant. Afterward he told me he thought it was odd when I ordered and specified everything I wanted, but he says I often do weird things, so he just thought I was being weird. And I told him I thought it was weird that he didn't want ANYTHING on his cheeseburger, but I don't eat cheeseburgers, so what do I know?

If the fries and the restaurant hadn't been such a train wreck, we might have tried again some time, now that he knows how to order, but paying nearly £30 for that experience put him off Five Guys forever. And, I gotta say, it made me really sad, too. (But I already struggle with fast food prices over here, so it's a hard sell for me.)
I miss Taco Bell. Bad. But the reviews I've heard from Americans who've been to one make me nervous. I know I will be disappointed. I
know this. But I miss it. So I'm conflicted about going. I don't want to meet my hero.
