And now I'm even happier that I'm not back in Science Class!  ;) ;D

Ok, today's lesson went well. ;D

A few minors, I think: signaling too early coming up to a roundabout, signaling too early for a turn (there was a small lane hidden behind cars that I didn't realize was there where I should not have signaled until passed for a later turn), and a slightly cut corner.

I did the parallel parking thing! I did the parallel parking thing!  ;D   I did the pull forward into a bay thing. I did the double-roundabout switch from turn left to turn right. Did the onramp and offramp, the crowded streets with kids darting. Did the school zone. Did the construction zone diversion.  Crossed major roads. Went down crappy little bouncy one-way lanes.

Got a "that's better" out of the instructor at the end of the lesson. No longer terrified to drive here. :)  Two more lessons to polish up (backing into bays is still a major problem for me) and then my practical test at the end of next week. I am feeling better about it.

Then  I can book a flight home, with a rental car. :)  I'd really like to go back to visit - we have a very elderly friend who is not doing well. I don't want to miss getting to see and talk to her one last time.

Good job Nan! I'm sure you will get it by the test, and they may not even test parallel parking or backing in. I had to pull over on the right and reverse two spaces. My UK license arrived today and at least that made me smile. :)

That's so impressive!  :). Best of luck with the test.  :)

@Nan D.  in my first lesson as part of my assessment, my driving instructor took me on the Magic Roundabout in your original post.

I would say it wasn't that bad, but to be honest he was telling me what to do, when to stop, where to go...if I'd been alone I think I'd have panicked.

Yeah, that happens to me, too. As long as Tommy Automatic tells me what to do in a new situation, I'm fine. Or as long as he's got the TomTom on. But otherwise I get nervous. Which leads to me hesitating - I don't want to kill anyone - and then making errors out of too much caution.  I'd say if you survived the magic roundabout on your first go, you'll be able to handle anything!  I do think it's just a matter of having done it enough times so that it doesn't feel so "odd". ;D

Well, I had my last lesson today. I backed into the bays on both sides ok. Parallel parked ok. Managed the traffic circles ok. Tommy says I'm ready for the test, so hi-ho,hi-ho, it's off to test I go on Thursday.

As long as my nerves don't play up this will go well. The older I get, the worse my nerves get. But I always have tested well, surprising myself most of the time. Sooooo maybe on Friday I can book a flight home!  ;D
