I said "britishism" as a joke.  "-isms-" usually indicate funny things about the subject.  Americanisms, foodisms, Mollieisms, etc.

It's just that there seems to be a lot of moaning about/'joking' about how things are 'wrong', etc, so 'Britishisms' just sounded like another one of those sort of things.

It's not a problem... everyone has the right to moan, and I have the right to be annoyed with it!  ;D

There are so many things I love about the UK as well! But I'm also brand new and adjusting.

I tried to include the things I love as well. The UK is my favorite country!:)

Didn't mean to point that directly at anyone... sorry, as I can see it came out that way.
It just feels like that's the sort of tone of many posts recently.  I probably just need to step away and take a wee break.

Carry on!  :)

When I first moved here I kept making comments on things that were weird, things I didn't like, or things that I loved.

My sister in law suggested that I write it all down, my first impressions, because after 6mo-1year it'll be normal.

Here is my list so far:

1. How oddly big the outlets are here.
2. No outlets in the bathroom.... ???
3. Kettles!!!!!!!
4. Writing the date wrong! :( My birthday is 9/6 not 6/9! I am NOT a Gemini!!
5. Driving on the wrong side of the road (probably my absolute least favorite thing about the UK)
6. Cafe's everywhere!!!  ;D
7. Separate taps for hot and cold
8. You can turn off the outlets!!
9. There is no one pound note...It is a coin and I forget it's a 1pound and then I have loads of coins!!  >:(
10. Free health care!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;D (even though I paid the surcharge)
11. Celsius!!  ???
12. The metric system  ???
13. Being corrected even when people know what I mean because of my pronunciation/word usage  ::)
14. Radiators! (we don't need those in South Louisiana, and I had to be shown how they work)
15. No Air Conditioning!!
16. No screens on windows. (mosquitos!)
17. Opening windows out instead of up! They can be pushed open!!! (can't do that in South Louisiana due to the mosquitos!)
18. Fish. Finger. Sandwiches!
19. Clotted cream!!  [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]

To be continued......any of you have a list ??  ;D :D
Haa!! Soon will be my yr anniversary living here and those darn faucets still get me!  In fact my husband thinks the word faucet is funny! We speak Scotmerican now at home! Hearing it will be in the high 20s for temps and that's a good thing. Ohh and pants! Ha!! So many! Hope you are doing well! I have a southern accent and people enjoy hearing when they can understand lol.

I've been here five years and never realized they don't use the word faucet! I just asked my husband and he said "it's a tap". What. How did I ever miss this lol

TeamTollie, your list resonates so much. I wish i would've started a list like you! The things that still get me is some of the British grammar. For example, I would say "I will be sitting here waiting for you" and they say "I will be sat here waiting for you". Also, they way they say numbers. I happily say 1200 as twelve hundred. They read out the whole thing, one thousand two hundred.

My husband will read the time as "oh it's a quarter past" and I'm like JUST TELL ME THE NUMBER

Anyone got anything they enjoy in the UK?

I love the way people enjoy my husband's American accent and make a fuss of him wherever he goes.

I was like they before!!! But now... I actually use it too. Seems weird to me to say three fifteen/forty five now. I'm assimilating slowly.

Loads! Anything from having NHS as well as great transportation to tiny things. I think most people give off a kind feeling. I have felt very welcomed and included. I love looking around and knowing the country was thriving even before the US was discovered. My husband and I are big arcetucure and art buffs so the UK is a treasure trove for it. Like you mentioned my husband said never change my American ways and folks enjoy hearing my take on things. It has been mostly a pleasure for sure.

Me Too! I think this is a place we all can relate to the massive change and get a little or "wee" laugh as they say here in Scotland. I totally got your post. It's all in good fun. I am very happy and obviously being with our spouses is the best!x
