We are currently in Edinburgh staying with my wife’s sister. Today we went to Beecraigs country park where we went on an 8 mile hike. Beautiful crisp clear still day. The temperature never got above 3 or 4 degrees which meant the normally muddy areas stayed frozen and were easy to walk on. Lovely.

That is definitely the nice part of winter. I do miss the crisp walks just after a fresh snowfall on a sunny day.

I like that it’s almost 50 degrees here at the moment it is nice to have a mild winter. I visited America in November and the temperature was low 30s I found that cold. I think I’ve grown used to the milder winters. Don’t know how I survived the cold winters in America !!

Since living here, I’ve become such a wimp to New England cold weather hah

They're getting 2+ feet of snow this weekend back home, and I *kinda* miss that but at the same time am so grateful to not have to shovel and drive in it/the messy aftermath.

Oh nice!

Didn't realise we had mild winters  :P

-3 in my garden this morning. I think it got down to -5 or -6 last night. Chicken's water frozen solid.  Snow on the ground.

On the plus side, days are getting longer!!
I could barely see in the garden a few days ago in the early morning, same time today, but definitely noticed it was lighter today! [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]

Yeah, once you get much past Perth, you're in a whole different climate zone!  ;)

I love this time of year, when the days start getting longer and you know (hope) that spring is just around the corner!  :)

Didn't go out yesterday, but it looked cold. (Had to wait for the plumber to come unblock a sink that's been running slow since we moved in. All fixed now!)
No snow, no appreciable rain yesterday. Very clear out. It looked chilly when I got up earlier - thermometer in the kitchen window was reading around zero C, or just a bit below. And I can still see a bit of frost on the grass. We're a few floors up, and the thermometer is in the shade, so it probably is close to accurate, but maybe reads a degree warmer (cold air sinks). Clear as a bell out there again today. No breeze that I can see moving the trees.

Yes, it's getting light earlier and dark later! We have some little strands of twinkle lights that we leave up around our livingroom windows all year long, set to come on when it is just dark enough to not be able to really read by the ambient light in the room. (Was around 4:00 earlier this winter.) They are now coming on when there is still some light. The plants are behaving oddly, too. The four cayenne pepper plants have about a half-dozen blooms now among them. They seem to like being behind the kitchen sink on the north side of the house, oddly, rather than being in the southern-facing windows. (I moved them a week or two ago.) Whatever, as long as they are happy and producing. I wasn't expecting to be getting peppers from them over the winter, but there are three turning red on the plants right now. At this rate, with the number we have hanged up and dried on the pantry shelves, I'll never run out of cayenne! The jalepenos are also making fruits. Very small fruits, but it counts. That's so weird! The cowhorn peppers had a bloom, and I'm not sure if they can self-polinate or not. The two of those plants are now two feet tall, and all of them seem healthy. I am surprised peppers do so well here - I would have thought some of the other plants would do better, but it seems like hot peppers are going to be the plant-o-da-house.  And are happily surviving winter.  ;D

I read somewhere a few weeks back (can't remember where now or if it's even true!) that with Brexit, they will actually be looking to ditch changing the clocks. That is probably the only thing I can get behind! LOL I HATE changing the clocks because it makes getting dark earlier EVEN worse!

Yeah, I have a feeling the changing of the clocks came in during the 70s? I think in the 1940s it was BST all year round. I think, anyway, I'm probably wrong!

It has been around a lot longer than that. I was at grammar school for the experimental years 1968 through 1971 when they left the clocks set at GMT+1 instead of falling back to GMT. In 1972 they abandoned that and went back to BST and GMT.

It is properly wintering outside right now. Lots of big snowflakes, just coating the road. Christmas card stuff.

Of course, my Tesco order is due within the half-hour. Bets are they cancel the delivery due to inclement weather! ::)

Edit:  I lose the bet. He showed up at 11:20. His truck had not been loaded and the order had not even been pulled. Apparently the night crew didn't make it in. If it had been me, as nasty as it was last night, I wouldn't have gone in, either.  But they sent all my chicken, so I'm firing up the canner and putting up about 12 pints of chicken in broth in an hour or two. I feel kinda bad for the guy - he said he's on duty until 7pm. As soggy as it is outside (the snow has melted), when the sun goes down it'll all freeze. Hope he gets home safe!

Best advice I can give to help that guy out is to message Tesco and let them know you appreciated the service given the weather, etc.  People are quick to email when things are wrong but less likely when it comes to praising :)

Yay for tesco coming through for a change!

I'm missing snow. If I don't have to drive in it or shovel it I'm happy to be around snow. But hoping it doesn't hit when we are in Boston in March
