Fbar - married and maiden names in use
« on: November 04, 2018, 09:40:05 PM »
Hi everyone,
I will be completing fbar filing but my passport and SSN are maiden name.  However my UK bank accounts have my married name.  Do I need to process a name change on passport and with SS before I can complete filing?
Has anyone fielded taxes and completed fbar with one legal US Identification name while a different name has been on accounts- and are you able to share your experience?
Thank you!

The IRS match the name to the US Social Security Administration database. An FBAR is not a tax return and is not administered by the IRS, but it should be simpler to use the same name on both.
