Marriage Certificate size help
« on: November 05, 2018, 10:10:04 AM »
Hello everyone.

My wife is now back in the US with the visa pack ready to be sent off.

I'm in a minor panic as I'm pretty sure that I read somewhere that all documents need to be A4.

Our Colorado marriage license is bigger than A4. I've included the original, a certified copy and another copy that I have reduced to A4 size. Is this going to be ok?

I also uploaded my final document checklist in an earlier thread but I'm afraid it looks like it got overlooked. I'd really appreciate it if someone could just look it over and point out any mistakes or omissions before we make the jump.

Here it is:

Packet Contents

Applicant's Documents
- Receipt for priority processing
- Return shipping label
- Printed online  Visa application
- Appendix 2
- Stamped biometrics confirmation sheet
- Current US passport
- 2 passport photos

Sponsor's Non-financial Documents
- Certified copy of passport
- Sponsorship cover letter

Financial Documents
- 6 months of payslips
- 6 months of bank statements showing the deposit
of every payslip
-Letter from bank accompanying bank statements
- Contract of employment
- Letter from employer
- Latest original P60

Accommodation Evidence
- Sponsor's Land Registry document
- Letter from sponsors mother
- Sponsor's mother's name change deed
- Estate agent house sale page
- Latest council tax bill to show postcode as there is an error on the house sale document
- Copy of mothers passport photo page

Relationship evidence
- Marriage certificate issued by the Larimer County Clerk & Recorder’s office Loveland, Colorado
- Sponsor’s Decree Absolute
- Photos of us together
- print out of all flight receipts we've made to each other
- photocopies of passport entry/exit stamps
- Letters/cards sent to each other
- Facebook chat logs as evidence of regular communication

Congrats  :)...I will be sending my app off in a few weeks as soon as my passport comes back.. On the Marriage License, Texas license is quite long as well... do we have to mail the original as well as a certified copy or is the certified copy and another copy of it ok to send  ???

I'd say more than okay.

We don't really know if they want originals or copies or both at the moment, so I would either send all of those and see what happens, or just send the certified copy and the A4 copy.

In regards to your documents:

- you only need 1 passport photo (which won't be used and will be sent back to you anyway)
- the copy of the sponsor's passport only needs to be the photo page, and no other pages
- in regards to the financial documents, put them in the following order:
1. payslips
2. bank statements (and accompanying letter)
3. employer letter
4. job contract
5. P60
- for the relationship requirement, you only need 2 photos of you and your sponsor, no more

You DO NOT need:
- Estate agent house sale page
- Latest council tax bill to show postcode as there is an error on the house sale document
- Copy of mothers passport photo page

Since we don't know for sure (because there are contradictory instructions), I would either send:
- original
- regular copy
Or
- certified copy only

Hello,

Thank you so much for your reply. I've noticed on the VFS global page, it has got new barcode document dividers that I can download.

Should I be using these? There are some that aren't applicable to us such as educational evidence and TB test evidence.

Should I just leave these out?

I'm so stressed. I spent ages carefully sorting the documents out myself only to find out that I need to rearrange them. She's got all the documents in the US so I guess we'll have to do it together over FaceTime.

Any other pointers would be hugely appreciated. This is literally making my hair fall out.

Thanks again

Alex

Again, we don’t know yet... because the instructions are not clear and no one has been through the new process from start to finish yet.

I believe some people have used dividers and some people haven’t. If in doubt, print and use them... it won’t do any harm if it turns out they aren’t needed.

Personally, if I were applying now, I would read all the instructions carefully, follow what they say to the letter, and where there is any contradiction, take the conservative approach.  That way, you are covering yourself.

So if it asks you to print barcode dividers, I would print the barcode dividers and as TB test is not applicable to you, I would prepare a page to go with that divider stating "not applicable due to residence in the USA", or words to that effect.

Hello there!

They've made it so unclear. Do you think as long as all the documents are there they'll accept it? Can they refuse it for being in the wrong order?

The thing is, they have provided the barcode dividers but no guidance on what documents go where. I'm not sure where to put what. There appears to be 2 different dividers for financial documents so I'm stumped.

I'm really nervous now as all my documents are in the US and so I can't do it myself.

Yes and yes. No need to worry.

It doesn't matter what goes where as long as it's in a sensible order. In fact, they didn't used to tell you the order they wanted until AFTER you had already mailed the application!

I would go with the following order:
- Applicant documents (priority receipt, shipping label, cover letter, online application, passport, passport photo)
- Appendix II divider (Appendix 2 form)
- Sponsor Evidence divider (passport copy and sponsor letter)
- Employment Evidence (payslips, employer letter, job contract, P60)
- Financial Evidence divider (bank statements)
- Accommodation Permanent/Temporary divider (Land Registry, invitation letter, name change deed)
- Relationship documents divider (marriage certificate and all the relationship evidence)

In terms of the dividers, I probably would not include the following dividers as you should not be providing any evidence for those sections anyway:
- Educational Evidence (this cannot be considered anyway)
- TB Certificate (I know it was mentioned to send it, but no one applying in the US needs a TB Certificate anyway, so they won't be expecting you to include it)

It's seriously not an issue, so don't overthink it. UKVI can always rearrange things into the right order if they want.

What accompanying letter needs to be with the bank statements?  ???

It depends on the format of the bank statements as to whether you need a letter or not.

1. If they are original bank statements either received in the mail or printed by the bank in-branch, you do not need a letter
OR
2. If they are online-banking statements that the sponsor has printed at home, they must be either:
- stamped/signed by the bank on EVERY page
or
- accompanied by a letter from the bank confirming their authenticity

Further up the thread, Blu_jz said they had a letter from the bank accompanying the statements, so I added that to the post above, since I was tailoring my answer to their specific documents.

Good morning!

Thank you so very much for doing that. I feel so much more confident with the document order now.

I have another question or two...

1. I started filling out the application on the .gov website back in September as I had a spare hour or two. As a result, on the homepage of the application it says that the application was started in September. I know that all the documents need to be dated within 28 days of the online application. Is this from when the application is actually submitted? Do i need to start a fresh application?

2. Could anyone who's done this give me a brief overview of what happens once we submit the application on the .gov site? I literally only found out about VFS Global a couple of weeks ago and as I have to talk my wife through the application process over the phone I wanted to get an idea as to what to expect. So I have to provide an envelope for returns or just pay the courier fee? Do they explain everything as we go? I'm so confused...

We're nearly there. Only been apart a week and it's already unbearable. Need to get this done as soon as humanly possible :)

thank you once again.

Alex

No, you don’t.

It’s only the financial documents (latest payslip, latest bank statement and employer letter) that have to be dated within 28 days... and it’s no more than 28 days before your official application date, which is the date you submit the online application and pay for the visa.

You submit the online application, pay for the visa and IHS surcharge and book biometrics at a USCIS Application Support Centre (NOT a Premium Centre).

Then you go to the VFS website and register (you’ll need your GWF application number) purchase the priority service and/or shipping labels (under the USA - Application Support Centre). You print the priority receipt and the return label, then put them in your package at the top. If using the outbound shipping, you take your package and the label to UPS, get an envelope from them and mail everything to New York.
