Gone are the blissful days of unlimited drink refills, and pouring your own fountain drink.  You will encounter the rare drink fountain here and there (Five Guys has them), and when you do come across one it will feel inexplicably exciting.  Also, you will learn to keep bags in your purse, or pay the 10p (or whatever price) for a bag.  The nice thing about the shopping bag charge is that it's aimed at preserving all the beauty you are appreciating everywhere by reducing our use of single-use plastic bags.  But it's still annoying when you get to the checkout and realize you forgot your bags so will have to buy a few, even though you have 300 at home.
Oh I’ll remember that lol. It is better than seeing Walmart bags growing in the trees in the states

If I'm honest, I did too at first!  In my own case it's because I have only seen one fountain drinks dispenser since I moved to the UK (when we went to the terrible Five Guys in Cambridge a few years ago), so it wasn't first thing to come to my mind.

Yup, you're definitely from the South!   ;D  When I was a child, my family went to Arkansas to visit my grandparents, and at a restaurant there, a waitress asked me for my drink order.  I said, "Coke, please."  She said, "What kind?"  I was eight and that was so confusing!  I mean, I specifically said Coke!  I didn't understand why she was now asking for more information.

You will find most "fizzy" drinks and some candies are made with artificial sweeteners, and taste awful. It's an attempt to curb obesity. I don't think artificial sweeteners are good for children or anybody else.

Even then, I wouldn't buy a bag! When I got caught out once, I emptied an entire shop directly into my car rather than buying more bags!  ;D

Best to keep them in your car. That way, if you forget to take them into the store, you can just take your trolley to your car and pack your bags there!  :)

I read that as candles!  ;D. I was like, why are they putting sweeteners in candles?  ;D

Ok thank you. Oh my gosh I love it. We have had so much fun traveling around the area ... so much beauty I can’t comprehend it. Kinda bewildered by a couple things like where the heck’s the fountain drink machines lol and paying for shopping bags . And wow we drink a lot of tea ☕️, other than that I’m in heaven.

So happy that you're loving it!  :)

Tea is optional though!  ;)

Great idea!  We have the bag of carrier bags hanging on the back of the front door.  My husband never remembers them.  I usually remember, but one day I forgot my sunglasses, my purse (had to go back for it), to put in my contact lens, and the bag of bags.  It was not a good day.

Someone should tell that to my in-laws!  :P  Actually, I've got them trained now.  Last time I was there, they even had Coke for me.  Of course, I'd brought my own, because I couldn't take the chance.  But they thought of me!  :)

My answer to the tea situation when at home is my husband has a cup of tea, and I have a cup of Bovril.   :P  "Discovering" Bovril has revolutionized my life.

Hadn't thought of that approach before! I usually keep a bag or two in the car and I have SOOO many bags at home because we have a lot of the re-usable tote bags that we take grocery shopping but there is the odd occasion where I've forgotten and instead of just putting them away in my car and packing them up once I got home, I'd get all new bags that I then had no real use for!

I also read candies as candles and was equally confused for a second hahaha

We asked our mp to request a refund of the priority money week before last and I just got an email from UKVI saying I will be refunded 573.00£ of it.
