oh wow, we were being very optimistic hoping to be together by Christmas!
When I look up the visa processing times on the uk government website, and select applying from New York, it doesnt even give the option of seeing processing times for settlement visas. Only visit visas and points based visas.

Yeah, they’ve done that with several countries over the last year or so - it seems that since the change to the processing system, they have taken the settlement visa data off the USA application page now as well.
So, all we can do now is just wait and see what happens.
Unfortunately, this means that all you guys who are applying now are essentially the ‘guinea pigs’ for the new system.
They are also overhauling the application system for applications made inside the U.K. as well, so basically everything seems to be changing at once and no one seems to know what’s happening.
I’ve been on the forum for almost 12 years and this is the first time I’ve felt completely lost as to what is going on... which means I can only guess at how things work now
