Spouse Visa Checklist - Missing Anything?
« on: November 17, 2018, 06:27:39 PM »
Hi all, we’ll be applying via the cash savings route in 10 days (ah!!!) and were wondering if a few of you might take a look at our checklist. How does this look? Are we missing anything?

Application Documents
• Receipt for priority application processing
• Printed online application
• Appendix 2
• Receipt for IHS payment
• Stamped biometric appointment confirmation page
• Letters of introduction from applicant and sponsor
• Passport photos of applicant (2) and sponsor (1)
• Applicant’s current and previous passports
• Copy of biographical page from sponsor’s passport

Financial Documents
• Letter declaring source of cash savings
• Original bank statements covering previous six months
• Letter from sister declaring personal gift ($5,000)
• Sister’s original bank statement showing withdrawal of gift
• Applicant’s original bank statement showing deposit of gift

Relationship Documents
• Proof of relationship cover letter and trip summary table
• Original marriage certificate
• Photographs showing applicant and sponsor together during all trips
• 2-3 screenshots per month of personal communication history (iMessage, WhatsApp, Gmail, Skype, Facebook)
• Letters of support (4) written by close friends and family
• Travel documents (e.g., tickets, itineraries) for all visits between applicant/sponsor

Accommodation Documents
• Land registry for sponsor’s house
• Housing inspection report
• Recent mortgage statement
• Recent Council Tax statement
• Recent utility bills
• Rental agreement between sponsor and temporary tenant

Other
• Pre-paid shipping label and return envelope
• Photocopies of all submitted documents

Thank you in advance! I can't begin to tell you how helpful this group has been!

Welcome to the forum :).

You have a lot of things in your list that you do not need.

I would take out all of the following:
• Letter of introduction from applicant (you only need a contents letter)
• Passport photos of applicant (2) and sponsor (1) (you only need 1 photo of the applicant only)
• Sister’s original bank statement showing withdrawal of gift
• Applicant’s original bank statement showing deposit of gift
• Proof of relationship cover letter and trip summary table (this goes in the sponsor letter of support)
• Photographs showing applicant and sponsor together during all trips (you only need 1 photo, maybe 2 maximum)
• Letters of support (4) written by close friends and family (cannot be considered)
• Housing inspection report
• Recent Council Tax statement
• Recent utility bills
• Rental agreement between sponsor and temporary tenant

Thank you for taking a look! Wondering if you might entertain a few follow-up questions as it looks like you post on here quite a bit...

1. Is there anything missing from my list that you would suggest including? I've read about submitting birth certificates on some other forums but not sure if this is required or if our passports will suffice.

2. My bank statements cover from the 6th of each month to the 5th of the next, so the statements we'll be submitting cover May 6th through November 5th. Do you think this will be an issue? I don't want the ECO to be confused because it's not May 5th to November 5th.

Thank you again and sorry for the nitpicky questions! Can you tell we're anxious? ;)

Hi Jaspy!

You do not need birth certificates. Best to include another months worth of pay slips and bank statements so there can be no doubt that you are covering the full 6 months.

Birth certificates are not required, because your passports are proof of ID/nationality.

The only time you would include birth certificates is if:
- you have a non-UK citizen child who is also applying for a visa (you would provide the child's birth certificate to prove their relationship to you)
or
- the sponsor does not have a valid passport (you would provide their birth certificate as alternative proof of identification)

They need to cover a full 6 months, and not a day less, so if your last statement is November 5th, your first statement really should cover May 5th as well.

What dates are on your payslips? They must also cover a full 6 months as well, from the date on your most recent payslip.

I would send an extra month of payslips and bank statements to make sure you cover every single day, so that you have April to November for each.

Thank you both! I'll include an extra month of bank statements.

I'm applying via the cash savings route, so was just planning to submit the bank statements and a letter declaring the source of my cash savings. Most of my cash savings come from salary income accrued over the course of my career, but my understanding was that I only need to declare this on the letter and do not need to submit actual payslips. Is this correct?

No, you don't need payslips. I just forgot which category you were applying under (should have checked your list again first) and assumed you were using employment income to meet the requirements.

You just need your 7 months of bank statements.

If the savings are just from salary income, you don't need to include a separate letter declaring the savings, because the Appendix 2 application form has a table where you declare the source of the savings.

Yes. Don't include pay slips if you are using savings as it will only confuse the matter. You do not need a separate letter, there is a space on the application form for the declaration.
