New Member - MO to UK!
« on: December 08, 2018, 07:10:39 PM »
So I'm Kim and my other half is called Jay. I am from the UK and he is from Missouri. We first met in 2008 as teenagers on a theatre exchange and saw each other twice in 2009 and once in 2010 as part of that exchange. There was always something special between us, but at 17/18 we wouldn't have been able to sustain a long distance relationship and stayed in touch as best friends supporting each other over the years. Last year we happened to both be single at the same time and decided we were now in a position in our lives to be able to give things a real go! Suffice to say, it was instant love, even after all the years our feelings were the same. We feel we've wasted so much time already on bad relationships that we don't want to waste any more time apart and would like to get married and live together.

I have the better situation here in the UK and he would like a fresh start out here with me. We have full support from both our families but are now looking to find out more about what w're getting into and how he might find the transition. We will be looking to marry towards the end of next year and hoping he can join me in the UK for Christmas next year with his dog. We hope that gives us enough time to get everything in order and to spend some time together in a normal situation by visiting each other several times over the next year while the other is working etc, opposed to just like a holiday.

I'm hoping this forum will help to give me any help/advise with the process of getting him over to the UK, that we can learn from others experiences, that he can find out how he can continue to do things he enjoys and get work and generally make some friends over in the UK :)

I've already read some threads before joining and it looks like everyone is a lovely community and has a lot of experience across a wide selection of people so I'm very excited to be here and start planning everything!

Hi Kim, welcome to the forum!  :)

That sounds like a great timeline. Keep reading the threads in the visa section and you'll know exactly what to expect by the time you're ready to apply!
