Ewww Jimbo! Why??

I had Christmas Pudding (foods of athenry gluten free & nut free) with brandy butter yesterday and it was damn tasty. Definitely going to try my hand at it next year in the instant pot. :) I don't think I'd like Christmas cake though, it sounds like too much brandy and painfully hard icing.

You guys, a miracle happened!  My husband and I went to Bristol for Christmas day, as usual, and... the food was good!  A perfectly moist turkey, they had pan drippings in lieu of gravy (which was amazing by their standards!), my MIL apologized repeatedly for "burning" the veg, and I was all, "NO!  They're perfect! The dark colour is where the sugars in the veg caramelized and that's the best bit...!"

My only regret is, as I was eating, I kept in the back of my mind the knowledge that every meal there is followed by dessert, which I always have to make a polite showing of eating, so I saved room (I don't do normally do desserts, except when my husband starts to feel too deprived).  Then after we finished our meal, I realized that Christmas day meant the dessert would be Christmas pudding.  *sigh*  What is it with this country and their dense fruity globs called "pudding"?  I could've had more potatoes. :(  But, still.... good food, apart from the traditional Christmas pudding.  Yay!

We ended up doing the monkfish tail for Christmas Day, and the rib of beef for Boxing Day, but both turned out perfectly, and OH is chuffed that he's got leftovers for roast beef sandwiches today.

We had no pudding at all.. not even ice cream.  We completely forgot to buy anything, and we never actually missed it.

I have to wonder if the gluten free one I had was less dense than others. We heated it up and accompanied it with the brandy butter and it was really tasty. My husband is terrible at noting texture and I have no comparison so it may have been lighter. The individual one they bought last year had almonds and I couldn't eat it, but it reminded me of a hockey puck in its packaging.

Glad your MIL finally sorted out the roast veg & turkey!

We started with a Christmas Eve pizza, and had leftover pizza and all our various nibbles on Christmas. Yesterday we had cheese, German sausage, chorizo, and leftover nibbles. We went shopping today, so the only meal we had at home was soup and a toastie when we got in. I haven't cooked the ham yet - I think that will be tomorrow evening.

Found some really epic sales stuff. The Daughter got a lovely black lace coctail dress at the British Heart Foundation store for only 10 quid, and it looks lovely on her.

Oh, yeah, and Christmas cake. I have to slice the icing off, trying to leave the marzipan. Otherwise it's too much sugar!
