I got forced into a traditional fruit cake at my wedding - my MIL’s friend was making the cake as a wedding gift to us and my MIL insisted that it was the British way to have a fruit cake and her friend would be really upset if we requested anything else. I didn’t argue since it was a gift. The funny part is not one person ate a piece of cake and when I thanked the lady who made it (it was absolutely gorgeous) she mentioned how surprised she was that we picked fruit cake because (and I quote) it’s bloody awful cake. We laughed so hard at that.

He says the funniest part of the whole story is that I was willing to eat cake I thought had gone off.

Key bit!

That moment as you stand over it. Contemplating.
I just hope that more people will ignore the fatalism of the argument that we are beyond repair. We are not beyond repair. We are never beyond repair. - AOC

I am really surprised that there was no sign on the cake saying it was for charity!!!!!!!

I ADORE Christmas cake and we had a layer of fruit cake in our wedding cake and it went down a storm.
My friend made the whole cake. We had fruit cake on the bottom (snow) and Thomas the Tank Engine was vanilla.
The fruit cake part, I brought to work after my wedding and it was gobbled up. It was seriously the best fruit cake ever.
I've had her Christmas cakes too after that and they've been amazing.

I've never gotten food on my underpants!

I'm not a fan of Christmas cake or Christmas pudding.  But I do enjoy a mince pie.  I like the mini pies though as it's just the right amount.

Not Christmas-y but I ADORE banoffee pie.  BEST THING EVER.

Yeah, funny, J loves a mince pie,but hates Christmas pudding and Christmas cake. He says the squidgy ratio is different!

I made mincemeat cinnamon rolls the other day and they came out amazing.  And my Mom has a recipe for mincemeat cookies that I want to try. I made way too much homemade boozy mincemeat so need to figure out creative ways to use it up.

It’s amazing how fruit can be turned into the enemy haha . I adore all fruit until it’s baked in a cake

You also love bread in a can. Lmfao.

But my story gets better today.

I thought a different person brought it in... turns out it was made by the mother of one of my managers. She makes it every year and everyone thinks her cakes are horrible.

So there was way more laughter today. Everyone is relieved they don't have to pretend to like this cake this year.

OMG! Banoffee pie is my kryptonite. I can't believe I lived a life without it. 28 years lost... Adrift without my beloved pie . Seriously. I absolutely love it.

And Tami, this is hilarious I would've died of embarrassment.
