Attending A&E
« on: December 20, 2018, 03:11:12 PM »
(American) Hubby has just come back from A&E.

He was treated like a celebrity!

His gunshot wound was playing up (long story - ancient accident) so not only were they thrilled to have an American visit them, but none of the doctors had seen a gunshot wound.

Hubby was very happy with the treatment he received.  All his records were accessed easily and he received excellent care and attention.

He is fine, by the way.

Glad he's ok!  :)

My husband gets treated that way too at hospital appointments, minus the gsw!  ;)

Ummmm....  I think we are going to need to know the story behind the gunshot wound.... that's not common - even amongst Americans.   ;)

Apparently it's only American men who get treated well at A&E. I was met with so much contempt to the point I would be concerned about going there in a life and death situation. (when I went it was because they were the only place that could do a scan/exam urgently - told by a doctor it was where I needed to go - to make sure what was going on didn't turn into an emergency).

Sorry the wound was playing up :( I can't even imagine!

Was he shot in the face by vice-president Chesney?

Spill the beans!

Since you asked:

Living in Las Vegas, he was sharing a house with a woman (expense sharing only - no naughties).  Hubby belonged to a gun club and would meet up with his buddies on a regular basis.

The lodger had a couple of hours off and so he took her with him to the gun club and she was mighty impressed.  Apparently she wanted to impress her friends, and so got his gun and showed it off to them.  She then loaded and cocked the gun, as she had no clue what she was doing, and put the gun back in its box.

Hubby and friends would meet early to play cowboys and would take turns in getting breakfast for everyone.  He got up, grabbed the box with the gun, went downstairs and was heading out when he stumbled knocking the box against a table - and the gun fired blowing a hole through the top of the leg.  Only just missed an artery and was eye watering close to making him speak soprano for the rest of his life.

By the time he came out of hospital the lodger had moved out.

That was about 35 - 40 years ago.  They X-rayed it today and have found either gunshot fragments, or calcification.

Apparently the gun was a 44 magnum.  I have no idea what that is.

That's a huge bullet.  Basically he had a AAA battery shot into his leg.  WILD story!  So glad it has a good ending.

Not sure if I have it right but he says there was a flame shoot out of it as well. Might have that wrong.

It was so close to some important bits.  He was very lucky indeed.

An AAA battery!  That is something I can visualise.

After 40 years of telling that story I'm sure that shell and accompanying flame and explosion grew larger each year  :)

I know he hasn't embellished it for me because I would have no clue what he was talking about.  And believe it or not, he is a bit ashamed of it as it was an avoidable accident.

But if it were me - I would certainly have added to it every time I told it.

Hubby thought he would do some casual work for the Post Office leading up to Christmas.  It meant he had to stand for 8 hours and consequently the leg started to play up.  He went to the Manager and said he was having problems with an old wound and would be leaving.  The Manager asked what the problem was and hubby said it was an old gunshot wound.  The Manager obviously had some doubts about this.  So hubby offered to drop his pants and show him.  The Manager declined.
