Spouse Visa Travel Documents to Include and Countries Visited
« on: January 13, 2019, 10:51:55 PM »
Hi UK Yankees!

First time poster here but this forum has helped me so much already, thank you!

I have questions to details I cannot find answers to if anyone can help. We are applying for my first Spouse Visa (i am US moving to UK with my British husband to be, marrying in USA next month before applying) we are on our way to having all documents needed aside from our wedding certificate which we will have before applying and he will get the financial documents sorted and stamped with enough time.

My questions are, on the online application it asks me for countries visited outside of the states that are not the UK or commonwealth countries. It allows for 10 countries and i have been to 13 and a few of them multiple times.

Do i put each time i have visited a country such as Thailand in 2013 and again in 2016 and 3 times in 2018? Or do I just put the first time?

For the countries that I can't fit within the 10 slots, do I put those on cover letter?

And do i need the boarding passes for these trips even if I wasn't traveling with or visiting my spouse?

Do I only need to include boarding passes for my trips to visit my spouse and his to visit me as well as our trips we took together? Or do I include travel docs for every country I've ever visited? Even if he wasn't in the picture.

I am a bit confused if anyone can help me with this. Thanks so much!

I may have a few more questions as I go on.

Please understand that your post appeared for us at nearly 11pm our time, and it is now only 3pm the following day.  The members here who are more knowledgeable and can help you best have simply not had time yet.  Having said that, I am happy to have a go at it, but you'd probably do better to be patient...

You do not need the boarding passes or other documents for trips that were not taken with or to visit your future spouse.  You only need to list those to the best of your ability.  When you run out of room, you can add additional information where it lets you at the end of the application or include the rest of your list in the documents you provide.  I would list the travel in chronological order starting with the most recent and working backward.  So, list all the trips in this summary, but only include the boarding passes for the trips to see your spouse.
9/1/2013 - "fiancée" (marriage) visa issued
4/6/2013 - married (certificate issued same-day)
5/6/2013 - FLR(M)#1 in person -- approved!
8/1/2016 - FLR(M)#2 by post -- approved!
8/5/2018 - ILR in person -- approved!
22/11/2018 - Citizenship (online, with NDRS+JCAP) -- approved!
14/12/2018 - I became a British citizen.  :)

To echo JF, it's been less than 24 hours that your post has been up so please don't be discouraged. Some of us will not be sitting on UKY at 11PM on a Sunday as it's a work night and we may be at work the following day for the majority of the day and only periodically checking UKY quickly. I think one of the experts will come along soon (I've only done my own FLRs and that was over 2 years now so I may not be as helpful as some of them), but I can also try to help to the best of my ability.

Could you share exactly what it says? Does it state for a set time period? Or does it just state any times you've left your birth country/country you've lived in for 5+ years at all? You won't need to provide the evidence of those trips (the evidence will be in your passport stamps) for the trips that aren't in relation to visits to/with your partner - at least this wasn't the case when I initially applied for my "Leave to Remain". If they are asking for any time period, I would list them all (and add the ones that don't fit on the extra notes section if there is one on that app - unsure if the app has changed). If it's asking for a set period, list all in that set period. Definitely list all in the applicable period even if it was multiple trips to a particular country.

Hope this helps.
My, how time flies....

Thank you, you're right regarding time etc, just saw other posts with comments after mine and made me feel lost as it is already  a stressful time. Thank you for clarifying, that was what i thought but wasn't completely sure. I'm really not a whiney inpatient b****... even though this made me sound like it lol

Definitely appreciate it's a stressful time. We've all been there. Just keep in mind as well you might see comments on other threads that aren't yours because they may have commented on the thread previously and have received a notification of a response (either via email or their app) when they wouldn't have received the same for your post so won't be as visible. Hope that makes sense.

Makes perfect sense and I am now embarrassed. thanks for the info.

It is under passport and travel info section and asks "Have you ever travelled outside your country of residence, excluding to the UK or a Commonwealth Country, in the last 10 years?"

I feel pretty confident on what to do now. Thank you!

Don't be embarrassed :) Stress can really make us panic when we normally wouldn't.

Yeah so definitely just include any that you've gone to in the last 10 years with the specific dates, even if you've been multiple times (I always use my passport as a good way to check I've got everything). Unsure if the online app for your first visa will be the same as with my ILR which is just a brief description of why you left the country, and you only need to put "trip with friends" or "trip with my fiance" or "study abroad" etc etc.

Best of luck.
