So tomorrow we get the keys to our little house
« on: January 16, 2019, 07:57:50 PM »
I gotta say, buying a house in the UK is an exercise in hand wringing uncertainty and an extremely slow process.  Amazing how easily it can fall apart and that absolutely nothing is binding until the last minute.  Frustrating, that even a house with no chain can take so long and that you've no idea of a completion date until the very end.

But we got through it.

An American style fridge is being delivered on Friday.

Congrats hope you build lots of happy memories there. Can’t live without American style fridge we have one too but keep it in the garage as it’s too big for our kitchen !!

House and boat!  Best of both worlds!  Congratulations!

(My husband and I offered on our house in May 2016.  No chain, pre-approved mortgage, the inspection and mortgage agreement were ready within two weeks of our accepted offer.  We completed in October 2016.  There is no explanation for most of those five months.)

It's crazy.  The idea of no completion date is mind boggling to me.  You can't even start packing and planning.  Just stuck in a wait limbo.  Hmm, reminds me of something else, like, hmm, waiting for a visa.  We were fortunate to have the boat to live in while we waited.  We are still in a state of disbelief that it is completed.

It's amazing, isn't it?  We had all the financials sorted, and we knew we were moving, but had no indication of when.  We were fortunate, though, because our landlords were happy to accept our "indefinite notice" that we were moving out some day.  Every few weeks they'd ask if we'd heard anything, and we'd give them an update on our lack of progress.  But you guys are even more fortunate, already living in the boat and not needing to pack anything up!

Yes, and the house is only a little over a mile away, so we can bring things over as we need them.  It will be an easy move.

How lovely!  You really are going to have the best of both worlds!  The only way it could possibly be better would be if your house was right on the bank of the river/canal.  But a mile isn't too far.  Congratulations, again!  I'm really pleased for you.

And, the house is officially ours.  Ah!  It had been so long since I've seen the inside, I had forgotten how cute it is.  It's adorable.
