So, after waiting in all day my wife finally got the delivery from UPS. By chance I was on the phone to her at the time....

"Your application for a UK Visa has been successful"  ;D ;D ;D ;D

Woohoo....so happy and relieved.

Congratulations :D!

One thing, I guess we misunderstood things a little. I always thought that if approved you had a 30 day window either from the travel date you listed in the application or from the date of the decision if it was after that date. We put April 1st on the application but the date on the vignette is 25/3/19 to 24/04/19. So it's all a bit sooner than we expected and there's some mild panic in getting everything sorted in time but we'll figure it out.

What they actually do is make it valid for 30 days starting 7 days before the date you put on the application.... or if the decision is made after the date you put, it’s usually made valid starting about 7 days after the decision is made.

So, in your case, 7 days before April 1st is March 25th.

Aha, I see. We probably should have known that but it's not surprising that after the constant avalanche of information over the past few months we'd misinterpret or forget something. After so long what's a week's difference  ;)

It doesn’t seem to be something they actually advertise anywhere - it was just a pattern we noticed a year or two ago, when people received their vignettes.

Prior to that though, although they were supposed to honour the date you put on the form, they were just issuing the vignettes with pretty much random dates on them, so you couldn’t guarantee it would be valid for the dates you were expecting.

At least now they are being pretty consistent with starting them 7 days before your requested date :).
