Where to start, where to go, so many links....
« on: December 19, 2004, 10:11:40 AM »
Hello all,

My husband and I have our hearts set on relocating to UK, but haven't the faintest idea where to start.

We thought we knew where to start, had a reasonable idea anyway, but after searching site after site and reading about all the different visas ect... I am now kind of stumped.

What originally started the idea was that my husband, who starts school in Jan., wants to get his degree in psychology and wants to study parapsychology also.  Searching online he found a university in Ediburough (sp?) that offers that.  Thought being that if Scotland offers it, England might have something similar.  Mind you, he wants to work as a clinical psychologist and do parapsychology as a hobby.

So, to begin, we are still thinking that he gets his bachelors degree in psychology here, but where do we go from there?   ???

We have four children at home now, but by the time he gets his degree, we will only have one at home, she will be 16 when he graduates.  We are planning this rather well ahead of time, but from what I have read that seems like the thing to do.

I have so many questions, I don't know where to start.  ANY feedback will be greatly appreciated.    :-[

Thank you.

WW

I know what you mean about all the information that's out there. I think were I in your shoes, I might start with the very basic. The school. Get information from them about the feasibility. Look at several options/schools. Most of them have a web page giving information to people who would be coming from a different country.

Eligible for a scholarship? See the Fulbright Commission:
http://www.fulbright.co.uk/eas/studyuk/index.html

Also check out the US Embassy site on student visas:
http://www.usembassy.org.uk/cons_web/visa/niv/student.htm

When it starts to get serious, then look at the Home Office web site.
First and foremost, follow THEIR information.

The things you read on this web site are only experiences of others. None of us are experts and rules change constantly. We can give you ideas that perhaps you've not thought of, but trust the Home Office web site, it does have all the information you need.

Married to Graham, we run our own open-source computer training company in beautiful Wiltshire out of our 1814 Georgian Regency home (a former lodging house and once featured in Antiques Roadshow)
