You're nearly there... if only you'd said pavement instead of sidewalk!  ;)

I know, huh?

To me pavement is the road where cars go. Not the sidewalk where people belong. But I imagine that will morph over time....

I’m still translating depending on who I am talking to. I talk to loads of UKC and equally a large number of tourists. I don’t mess up tooo often lol, although I have said dollars instead of pounds a few times.

I’m totally English now in my language. However I once told a customer my pants were wet yep!

The one thing I cannot get right though is bins. I always tell my daughter to put her toys away in her plastic bins and she looks horrified!! I mean plastic storage boxes

If I had children, they would be THOROUGHLY confused! Garbage can, sidewalk, parking lot, shopping cart, candy, chips, juice, oh the list is sooooo long.

I say dollars or bucks to the Daughter when we are talking about prices all the time. We both understand it now means "pounds".  :D

LUCKILY my child also had a Canadian teacher last year, and most of my little quirks she just rolls with. Some days she asks for an American accent which is always cute. But for some reason that bin one always freaks her out lol

That's too funny with your daughter. What are storage bins supposed to be called here?

Good question! Plastic boxes?

On another note this is just a funny Scottish/English language thing, we always shorten business account managers to BAMs at work. Everybody does. Well we had some of our Scottish office down and they finally said why do you keep calling them bams? Do you not like them? Turns out calling someone a bam in Scotland apparently means they are stupid. Whoopsies it’s no wonder why the Scottish account managers don’t like us ;)

You're nearly there... if only you'd said pavement instead of sidewalk!  ;)

I grew up with "pavement" meaning any kind of concrete or tarmac surface... sidewalks, bicycle paths, roadways, carparks, etc.  If they were paved, that surface was pavement.  So when I moved here and my husband referred to driving on the pavement like it was a bad thing, I found it very confusing!

I've heard of Business Unit Managers referred to as BUM's.   ;D

We call the toy storage things boxes or tubs.  But my kid is good at knowing both the American and British terms for things.  For the most part.
