I don't know what the difference is...... core centre?  One of the six for the premium service.....?

(And this is why the anxiety kicks in!)

What type of centre it is won’t make a difference, it just changes the price and some will offer more additional serviced than other (from my understanding). It highlights this when you book in. Where will you be booking your appointment for?

I thought I had to go to a core centre -- I don't know why I thought that -- but since I can just go to an enhanced centre I'm going to the one in Newcastle.

Hope you hear soon!

Just be aware that the different centres cost different amounts. The VIP centres cost £260 (at the moment) as opposed to the core centre which only cost me £100 (though I'm not sure why I had to pay for an appointment in general as it said "appointments are free" but I could only find ones that cost money!)

The reason I ask is that there might very well be a space for your husband to sit and wait there while I can tell you there definitely isn't in Newcastle. Just make sure that the specific centre you're going to offers the services you need (unsure if what you need will be different to mine). I didn't investigate too much of the differences so take my knowledge with a bit scoop of salt, but it seemed like the only real difference was the VIP centre had a nicer "lounge" area than the core centres.

Appointments are free at the core centres, generally speaking, but if you book before 9am (I think) or on Saturday, they charge for an out of hours appointment, even though the office is open and staffed and it doesn't seem like it's out of hours at all.  It was similar (though slightly cheaper) with the old system before the Sopra Steria contract was rolled out: the first appointments of the day, and appointments on Saturdays, were £75 extra at UKVI offices when I was booking my ILR appointment last year.

Quote
Out of hours appointments

If your day tends to be busy, you can book an out of hours appointment at both core and enhanced service points and you can also book any other extra service when you do so. Out of hours appointments are offered subject to availability and start from £100 per person on top of any other appointment-based fees.

Doesn't seem like that's happening anymore as Croydon is a core centre and Ihad the option to go there on a Monday or Tuesday at either 8AM or 9AM but it would cost me £100. I thought if I was paying £100 anyways, I might as well go on a weekend when I won't lose out on pay or have to wake up stupid early so went with Birmingham at 12 on a Saturday for the same £100 fee. There were not "free appointments" available at all that I could see for the next 2 weeks period but I didn't bother to look at pricing beyond the next 2 weeks. Everything was either booked so I have no idea or £100 (for a core centre) or £260 any time for the enhanced centre.

Yeah, all the free ones were the first to get booked up.  Happened when I was booking my ILR appointment, too.  The 8:30am appointments would be the last to go.  Personally, I think it's yet another part of the scam.

"Appointments are free*"

* Some restrictions apply.  Must book an available appointment after 2pm but before 1pm in the same calendar day or an out of hours premium will be applied.

Not even 8:30 appointments in this new system anymore. It's done by the hour (so it's typically 8AM or 9AM).

It really irritated me that they highlighted "Appointments are free" as I couldn't find a single one that was actually free at the core centre!! Enhanced I expected it to be more money (not £260 more! But more for sure as it's a nicer experience), but I didn't expect a week day at a core centre to cost money regardless of whether it's 8 or 9AM...weekend I could understand but if I was going to pay the same regardless, I'd actually lose MORE money than just £100 because I'd have to take holiday time due to travel and appointment time (which is like 1.5 - 2 hours). At least Birmingham was on a day off. But still....they didn't exactly highlight the caveats to the whole "free appointments" thing for weekdays (at least not what I could easily find).

It has to read like that so that it's in keeping with the rest of the information on the .gov website!    ;D

Just tried to go in and do a sample of looking for "free" appointments to figure out what actually defines a "free" appointment but I can't get back in as I already have an appointment booked haaha

Can't see anything with the fine print to define this either. Very cheeky.

Misleading advertising.

It's not even misleading when they don't follow it up with fine print! hahah it's just a flat out lie

But I might've missed fine print defining it and now I can't go back. Hopefully next person submitting can report back :p

Think it's late enough in the day where we can officially close the book on the email coming through today either.

I mean, I've paid for "Super Priority" and there doesn't seem to be anything super about it so far....They should've either worked out the kinks by now or NOT committed to giving people ETAs on when they'd hear back.

Maybe tomorrow...  ::)
