Hello!
« on: January 22, 2019, 07:57:56 PM »
Hi! My name is Niki and I’m new to the forum. I am from the US with dual UK Citizenship, (my father was born in the UK).  I am married to a US Army service member. He will be retiring in 4-7 years (depends on promotion opportunities). I have never lived in the UK as an adult so I am here for advice on the process of getting my husband a spousal visa once he retires and just to get to know other expats. So glad to be here!

Welcome!

Things are always subject to change, but if you plan on retiring in the UK you can use pension income and savings to meet the financial requirements. When you're ready to get into the details for your specific circumstances definitely stop over and start a thread in the visas section (reading the threads will give you an idea, but every application is slightly different!).

I'd definitely recommend seeing a few areas of the country too if you've never lived there. From others on this board it sounds like Scotland and up north are a bit more friendly than down here in the South, and if I could manage the cold I would actually consider moving up there. :)

Hi Margo!
I did post in the visa section and got some great advice and answers already.
I lived in High Wycombe as a teenager and  did a semester abroad in London for college. I’ve also travelled around Scotland and parts of Northern Ireland. I have a lot of family in Killyleagh, in Northern Ireland. I’ve been thinking of moving there (as long as nothing crazy happens, like them leaving the UK, in the next few years) ,).
We are living in Germany right now because of my husbands job so I’m hoping to travel around the UK some more as much as possible but there are lots of other places in Europe I want to see while I’m here too.

I mean, I lived in WNY. I do know what it's like to live in a snow globe that's below zero most of the winter. ;) The weather was part of my reason for moving here! (as strange as that may be )

If you don't like the cold, but still want friendly, Wales is beautiful!

I lived there in the mid 90’s. I went to a DOD school at an old Air Force base. I think it was torn down a few years ago to make way for apartment buildings. But I enjoyed living there.

Oooo, Fred on these boards used to teach there!  But I think in the 80's?  How fun would it be if one of your old teachers was on this board?!!

That would be fun! I have the worst memory so I don’t remember many of my teachers. But maybe if I hear a name I’ll remeber them.

I didn’t realize it was still open during that time frame.

Another = a different school! Right in the town centre. It changed a lot in the time I was there, so I can only imagine how different High Wycombe is now!
