So my question today is....what kind of bird has a call that sounds like a squeaky toy? I keep hearing it but haven’t been able to see what bird is doing it!
My landlady took out our hedge, but somehow magically that increased the number of birdie visitors to our feeders!I realised I misidentified 2 of the visitors that live in my tree, so I have Great Tits as well as Coal Tits. Couldn't see the yellow until it was up close and noticed it was a lot bigger than the coal tits with a black line down the belly. And now we have song thrush, a greenfinch, gold finch, long tailed tits, lots of magpies and pigeons, chaffinches, and blackbirds. We bought the feeder so my kitty would have a bit more entertainment out the windows, but its actually keeping me entertained too. Have learned so much about British birds!
Peewit?
Nope, different pitch and not as coarse. Sounds like a dog mouthing a squeaky toy.....
I had to google. A Brown-headed Nuthatch blown off course? (the first one) https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Brown-headed_Nuthatch/soundsThe UK Nuthatch doesn't sound squeaky!https://www.rspb.org.uk/birds-and-wildlife/wildlife-guides/bird-a-z/nuthatch/
What a great sound! Bit sadly, still not it.
We saw a 'Jay' the other day! Lovely bird, but quite rare around here!
I just saw a woodpecker, from my garden. Well heard him, then saw him.. that has never happened before!
