Booze help
« on: January 29, 2019, 10:56:56 PM »
I have been asked to ask for recommendations for a good Scottish gin to take back to the States. As neither I nor the Daughter drink, we are clueless. The request is for something particularly and uniquely Scottish, not excruciatingly expensive, but good. We need to buy it by Friday. Thanks!

Scotland is more known (obviously) for whisky than gin...can’t think of any gin in particular that is Scottish to suggest. Instead, could you maybe try taking one from a distillery local to you? The novelty would be that it was distilled near you specifically and would be unlikely to be something they’d get in the US.

Can’t amend my original post but there are some really good non-Scottish gins I could recommend, however, such as Sipsmith  :)

Just did a google and it appears Tanqueray and Gordon’s are both distilled in Scotland. Not as nice as Sipsmith IMO and is easily purchased in the US for a decent price but are they just wanting you to bring something from where you’re from because they like gin and want to try something they can’t get at home? Or is it that they think it’d be cheaper to get here? Believe there is an “Edinburgh Gin Distillery”, which could make a good gift but I don’t know what it tastes like or what the price point is unfortunately. Maybe KF can come shed some light as I think she also likes a bit of gin :)

Oh no... Gin is huge in Scotland now. We've got lots of new Gin mills.  Stirling Gin, Edinburgh Gin... several others as well.

I bet Albatross or PB will know more. I'm not a gin lover so I can't recommend a brand personally.

Scottish gin?

Hendricks!
Available everywhere... Waitrose will  have it.  It is lush with cucumber & tonic.

I didn’t even realise Hendricks was distilled in Scotland!

Edinburgh Gin Vanilla & Plum is AMAZING.  And something they definitely can't get in the USA.  A lot of the others mentioned, while good, will be available in the USA.

I'd do the Edinburgh gin or a sloe gin personally.

And people, Phatbeetle is our beer master(ess).  I am the gin girl.   ;D
