Current CV style 'trend'
« on: January 30, 2019, 06:08:59 AM »
Hi guys...
I've been in the bank for 8 years now and thinking of moving on, so I am updating my CV for the first time in donks.

What's the current accepted trend or preference in CV style.... do they want detail, or just quick bullet points?  Any key words or phrases I should be trying to incorporate, if I'm looking a customer service roles?

There's a particular job I am applying for... service advisor in the local branch of a national car dealer.  The first question on the application is 'why do you want to work for us?'... my honest answer to that would be 'because you are a 5 minute walk from my house and I am SICK of commuting', but obvs I can't say that.... what would YOU say, if you were me?

Any advice would help... thanks!

I like a CV that has Responsibilities & Achievements broken out by role that you've held.  I'm also a bullet point person.  And whatever you do, don't under sell yourself.

Girl, you gotta blag the question.  Bring out your inner high school cheerleader with a nice dose of bullshit.  Well respected brand, want to deliver first class service to current and future clients, blah blah blah.

Sadly, I am unable to provide any credible advice, as well.  However, I must say that the way you framed your question makes me think you already know what you're doing, even as you ask for guidance.  Impressive trick!
9/1/2013 - "fiancée" (marriage) visa issued
4/6/2013 - married (certificate issued same-day)
5/6/2013 - FLR(M)#1 in person -- approved!
8/1/2016 - FLR(M)#2 by post -- approved!
8/5/2018 - ILR in person -- approved!
22/11/2018 - Citizenship (online, with NDRS+JCAP) -- approved!
14/12/2018 - I became a British citizen.  :)

Well, I'm no stranger to job-hunting!
It's just that it's been several years and my CV is pretty detailed and wordy (bigging myself up), and someone has told me that's not really done anymore and that it's all about brevity and just sticking to short bullet points and that the CV should not be longer than 1 page.

So... I was wondering, from any of you who do hiring, if this is really the case... if so, I've got a lot of trimming to do!

I have yet to see a CV that is one page!  Maybe for a brand-new-out-of-school-no-experience CV, but not for an experienced CV.

I agree that you sound like you know how you want it to look/how it should look.  Just be yourself on paper with a bit of extra nauseating bragging/ass kissing and call it done.

Thanks everyone.
I trimmed and clipped and polished and re-jigged my CV for 3 solid hours and hit the 'submit' button on the application, so fingers crossed!
I would SO LOVE to get this job, 5 minutes walk from home.... might even mean i could get a dog, as i would be able to come home at lunchtime to see him/give him a pee break/quick walkie.  [smiley=daisy.gif]
