Get a MBA, win a free year in the UK
« on: December 20, 2004, 03:11:23 PM »
Gordon Brown gave a gift to the haute bourgeoisie. Any graduate of the top 50 MBA programs can automatically get a 1-year work visa in the UK. The idea is that UK managers are such crap that the Treasury is desperate to get decent talent here.

What is the MBA Provision?

The 2004 Budget announced a new provision for graduates of 50 top business schools to work in the UK for up to 12 months on completing their MBAs. This provision will form part of the Highly Skilled Migrant Programme (HSMP).

The HSMP is designed to attract highly skilled people to the UK to seek and take work. The MBA provision within this addresses the weakness in the UK economy in the quality of management by attracting highly qualified and talented managers to the UK. The Masters in Business Administration remains one of the most recognised and respected management qualifications.

If she wants. From what it sounds like, you don't even have to be hired in advance. Have degree, will travel.

so i'm curious.  if one comes over on this.....and the company wants to hire them after their 1 year visa is up...how easy would it be?!

It would be, I assume, the same drill. Any company could hire them so long as they could show that there wasn't a comparable EU talent. Given that they'd be coming over on a HSMP already, this should be an easy argument to make, I'd guess.

I can't believe UT-Austin didn't make this list.  It is better than most of the schools listed here and consistently ranks in the top 20 of all rankings.

I'm a bit biased as my brother went there, but he doesn't need to be on the HSMP as he has a British passport.   :)
