Travel insurance is so useful.
We got a puke bug once in the US. Right before boarding a flight. Wouldn't let us board, nor did we want to.

Had to go to the doctors and get proof. US doctors were hacked off we were bothering them with puke bug. Tried to explain about travel insurance and the didn't get it.

But got all our expenses back, including flight change fees, etc.  No questions asked, since we had doctor's notes. That was through John Lewis , who aren't doing travel insurance anymore.

KFDancer, I hope you're getting some good answers on the wee man through your private insurance!

Our travel insurance was great - if a little too persistent.

Once we notified them of what was going on, they checked in like twice a day to see how he was getting on.  This was the medical team - not the claims team.  They wanted to ensure he was getting the proper care, wasn't getting worse, and ensure he was fit to fly before we returned.  It was surprisingly great care!

We saw the private paediatrician last week and they are running a battery of tests - including testing for Coeliac.  Hopefully we will have some answers one way or the other in the next couple of weeks.

That sounds like great travel insurance.

At least if it's Coeliac you know how to handle that!  Not fun ,but you're already able to do that in your house easily and at least a good way for him to feel better quickly.
Best wishes for whatever it may be.

My only concern is that my husband's blood test for Coeliac came back negative.  He received a positive diagnosis through a biopsy of his small intestine.  Just hoping that if it *is* Coeliac that it shows in a blood test.

Glad to hear you successfully got your claim sorted out!

I believe the gold standard for Coeliac diagnosis is a biopsy.  The blood test is usually done first as it's a less invasive test, but a negative blood test does not rule out Coeliac and usually if a patient has a classic Coeliac presentation coupled with a negative blood test, the biopsy is performed and a positive biopsy result takes precedence over a negative blood test.  Was the blood test for antibodies or was it HLA typing?

Haven’t a clue!  I shall ask.

We know our kids will have the gene as Coeliac is rampant in my husband’s family.  They are a fun group.  ;)

I know it's less ideal, but if it does come back negative, could you try to switch him to a coeliac diet and see if that has any type of positive impact? Genuine question as I don't know all the details about being coeliac so not sure if this wouldn't work for any particular reason (or even just because of his age).

I've known some doctors who would try a diet challenge if a test was negative.  I think the biggest "problem" is all the hidden gluten in things you wouldn't immediately think would have gluten - so if you were really relying on a diet challenge to confirm Coeliac, you would need to be super careful with what you ate/drank to ensure an accurate result.

I knew someone who tried it and was disappointed with the result as he still had symptoms even after going gluten-free for weeks.  Upon further questioning, he had been very diligent about his food, but didn't realise all the beers he had been drinking had gluten.

My husband is Coeliac, which is why they are testing him.  We’ve got gluten free down to a science.  Unfortunately my husband is very sensitive and even the smallest amount of cross contamination affects him.  And even though my boy is almost two, no beer for him.  After all, you have to be 5 to be allowed alcohol at home in the UK.  Hee hee hee.

Was going to say about the diet test if it comes back negative strictly because I know you guys already know the ins/outs of the Coeliac diet because of Malc.

5 if you're at home and 6 if accompanied by a parent at the local. :p

Worried about my boy again.  He has been off food since Monday.  Fever here and there.

But last night he fell asleep just after 6, slept all night.  Got him up this morning, he nibbled at a biscuit and then puked.  Been sleeping ever since.  Super lethargic, super chesty...  I'm just so worried that it's the same signs from when he got flu/pneumonia in February.

Been trying the GP since 9:30am.  Have yet to get through.  Called 111 and they said for him to be seen within the hour by the GP.  Been an hour and a half and still trying to get through.

And they wonder why people just go straight to A&E.  We are getting to that point.....

OMG, poor wee guy.
That's dreadful about your GP's surgery .Sounds like you might just need to go to urgent care/A&E. Horrible  :\\\'(
Hopefully it's not pneumonia again.

Give yourself a time limit. If you don't get through in the next 10 minutes, just take him to the ER.  Don't take any chances.

They stopped their sit and wait clinic two weeks ago.... this is the result.

Definitely changing surgeries.  The only reason we stayed with this one was *becase* of the sit and wait clinic....
