Another Brits vs Americans post... (Brits win this one)
« on: April 12, 2019, 11:55:47 AM »
I'm in a super silly mood probably because it's Friday or something so please forgive my daftness.

Well, I recently realized that the Brits tend to say "ehhhmmm" and Americans are more like "uhhhmmm". And I really now think we sound kinda dopey saying "uhhhmmm". Like I'm saying aloud with the stupidest sound in my voice and it's cracking me up. Try it. Say "ehhhmmm" and then say "uhhhmmm" and see what sounds better. LOLOL!!!!

Yes, but ask them to say pasta and see who sounds dumb!

Here is a collection of erms (that sound like umms to me!) at 25:18 to 25:30, or so.  For some reason, embedding the video here loses the time start.
9/1/2013 - "fiancée" (marriage) visa issued
4/6/2013 - married (certificate issued same-day)
5/6/2013 - FLR(M)#1 in person -- approved!
8/1/2016 - FLR(M)#2 by post -- approved!
8/5/2018 - ILR in person -- approved!
22/11/2018 - Citizenship (online, with NDRS+JCAP) -- approved!
14/12/2018 - I became a British citizen.  :)

I just wish my Brit hubby would stop the ehhhmmmm or uhhhmmmm stuff altogether. I ask "what do you want for lunch?" I get multiple "eeehhhmmmmms" for an answer, and it drives me nuts. Just say "let me think" or"give me a minute". Actually, most of the time, the ultimate answer is"whatever you want to cook".
Married December 1992 (my 'old flame' whom I first met in the mid-70s)

ILR - September 2011
Application for naturalization submitted July 2014
Approval received 15-10-14; ceremony scheduled for 10 November!
Passport arrived 25 November 2014. Finally done!

My husband is very clever.  To avoid this, he asks me what we're having for lunch before I can ask him what he wants.  That puts me in the erming seat.

LMBO!!! It actually did start right at 25:18 for me. And that's hilarious. Those were definitely umms! Oh, and between pasta and jalapeño, I CANNOT.  [smiley=laugh4.gif]

Never ask a man what he wants for dinner. LOL!! The biggest fight in every household across the globe comes from the question "What would you like for dinner?"   [smiley=laugh3.gif]

Wine has been drunk hasn't it?
I just hope that more people will ignore the fatalism of the argument that we are beyond repair. We are not beyond repair. We are never beyond repair. - AOC

Ha! One might think. But this is me sober. However, now that you mention it... what time is it?!

Well, would you look at that?  It just happens to be wine o' clock.  ;)

Right on time! Cheers!

I am waiting for my husband to get home for cheese and port.  Oooh, and my Booze Corner replenishing order arrives tomorrow!  I've got bottles of 12 yo single malt scotch, tequila, Cointreau, and rum on their way.

The liquor shelf is in the corner of our lounge...  I call it Booze Corner (à la "Welcome to Pooh Corner", only with booze in it, rather than Winnie the Pooh).  I was keeping it pretty well stocked for a while, but then had to do some closer budgeting for half of last year into this year.  But it's back, and it's going to be better than ever!

Oh! Ha ha! I was thinking it was like a wine club where they send you different wine every month. Would be a good name for something like that, wouldn’t it?!

Sooooo far away from Scotland!  When House is done (in about 30 years), I'd love to entertain guests, though!
