Yeah, I'm sure The Sun had nothing but good intentions.  ::)

Oooh, I read the "Book 6 info"...oh, I can't wait!  And I didn't know Ginny Weasley had the same birthday as me!  No wonder I like her so much... ;D

But yes, the Sun's story is ridiculous.  "We just wanted to return it."  Sure, that's why you didn't immediately call the police.  Although I have to admit, it would be very, very hard to let the police have it without reading it first.  ;)

Don't forget it was The Sun who "found" those copies of Order of the Phoenix a field a few years ago.  Journalistic integrity my butt.

The picture on the back cover of HBP has been released:

http://www4.mugglenet.com/viewer/?image_location=hbp/hbpbackcover_high.jpg

It shows the Dark Mark over Hogwarts (!) with Ron, Hermione, and (it looks like) Ginny looking on, with another student too shadowy to see in the back (not Harry, maybe Neville).

Oooooooooh I'm getting all shivery!!

Wanna start placing bets on who dies?

I think McGonagall will go, along with at least one other adult figure.  And I think the Mark is over Hogwarts because Voldemort lures everyone away to try to fight Harry there and throws up the Mark so they'll think he's dead.

Just a guess tho.

Ooh, I never thought about MacGonagall dying.  That's a good one.  I believe that Dumbledore will die by the end of the series, but I don't think it will happen in this book.  I'm still not sure what's going to happen in this one as far as who lives and dies.

As for the Dark Mark over Hogwarts, I was thinking it was because Voldemort takes over Hogwarts (how I'm not sure) and uses it to let the Death Eaters know this.

However... I'm just dying to know about Aunt Petunia's place in all of this.  Rowling alluded to so much in OotP.  Is she also a witch?  Does she know more about Lily & James' deaths than she lets on?

Sorry, my thoughts are scattered as I'm trying to type and keep my little monkey from playing with the keyboard.

Maybe we should do a poll...

Those are very good ideas that I regret to admit I didn't think about!  I can't believe that its almost time!! I feel like I should be spending all my time rereading the series once again in preparation for book 6!! Does anyone else do that?  But its a shame I left my heavy hardcover books in america :(

Come out, come out, wherever you are!

Am I the only one who has pre-ordered the 6th installment?  :-\\\\

I doubt it, but I am only up to book 3 and have now decided not to read the later books until after the films come out.  That way, I won't find the films so disappointing cos of all the stuff they leave out (and I'd imagine 4 and 5 will be a whole lot worse due to the length of the books).

I have one on order but can't remember how much I paid. Whatever Barnes and Noble was charging. :)

I felt the same way after reading the books. So much was left out that I felt like I was snubbed by the movie people. I would have loved to see Harry and Ron throw the elves across the wall in movie 3. So much has to be left out or the movies would end up being 6+ hours long. Saying that I would not mind having each book being a two part movie. I may be the only one who thinks this way, but to me it would have been great to have the whole story told.  Have them like a Star Wars saga, would be great.

Even if they did, I don't think any film could do justice to J K Rowling's wonderful prose.  There are so many little humorous and imaginative touches in the writing that I don't think can be transferred to film.

I've been buying the British editions since book four, which gets more and more expensive with each book.  I've got it pre-ordered from amazon, and with the exchange rate and shipping it's going to cost me almost $40.  :o  So in addition to being broke I'm going to have to wait awhile to read it.  People keep telling me to pick up an American edition, but I just can't bring myself to buy both copies.  And I'm sure I'll get looks of shock and horror, but I'm just not a fan of Mary Grand Pre's illustrations.  They're too... well, childish.

Are the books not made for kids? Anyone know why they have two different covers? Is the US and UK market that different when it comes to Harry?

At the beginning I think Scholastic treated it as if they were, otherwise they wouldn't have changed the title of the first book and changed Ms. Rowling's prose to be more American (or less British, depending on your outlook).  I've heard that they've not changed anything in HPB, which I hope is true.

I used the wrong word to describe the illustrations.  Of course the books are for kids, I just think that the illustrations on the Scholastic books are too whimsical for my taste.  They make it seem like Harry's world is this mystical place where fairies could pop out at any second.  His world IS mystical, but firmly based in the one we all know.  I'm not saying the Bloomsbury illustrations are fabulous, but I think they represent Harry growing up better than the Scholastic ones.

Because they know the books have a lot of adult readers, so they have a "kids cover" and an "adults cover" so that neither age group is put off buying them.
