Just in case it may be of help to others.
I passed my life in the UK test and didn't require a second attempt. Yay! The following are a few things to hopefully help others prepare for the day.
We drove to and around the test building two days in a row (prior to test day) to get a feel for traffic and parking opportunities. This lessened the stress on the day of going somewhere we've never been.
I took the test in Coventry. The site has a tiny parking area with less than 15 parking spaces so don't plan on parking there. There is a parking lot within a 10 minute walk but it's difficult to access (parking on both sides of the narrow road and small lot). The next closest is a 20 minute walk and across a very large road. If you can have someone drop you off or take public transport or a cab, it would be less stressful. There are many businesses in the building so there is some seating in the lobby. There appeared to be a small cafe or tea sales area on the ground floor as well. This ground floor area is great if you're waiting for someone to pick you up.
In the test area be sure to turn off your phone and any other devices immediately. You will be given a laminated card to provide you with information on how the test will proceed. Once you've finished with it they will call you to the desk where you will be asked to remove watches (I wasn't wearing other jewelry so I cannot tell you if you'll have to remove them as well. If you are wearing a collar you will be asked to turn it up to be inspected. They will check your ears for devices. If you are wearing long sleeves you will have to push them up to the elbow and keep them up during the test. They will check your forearms and wrists and will ask you to push up your trouser legs so that they can see your ankles as well. You will empty your pockets and put your belongings including bags and sweaters into a locker they provide. You will lock it and retain the key. After the test you will remove your belongings from the locker and return the key.
They will verify your personal information and check your BRP or Passport whichever you registered with and your address document (letter from utility, etc...).
The test room is comfortable and well lit and you will have a laminated card to detail how to use the software as well as a similar description on the software. You will have 4 test questions to help you get used to the navigation and once you've completed that you will begin the test. You have the option to increase the font size if needed. At this site there were small write on wipe off boards at each station with marker and eraser. You can note the number of questions you'd like to revisit or keep a running tally of questions you're sure you've gotten correct or vise versa. At the end of the test you will give them the Write on Wipe off board. There is a countdown clock on the screen as well showing how much time is remaining.
You cannot leave the room during the test so please make use of the facilities before you enter the test area.
The staff are personable and the process is surprisingly straight forward and pleasant (my opinion of course).
As for studying, the book was very helpful as were the test exams in a separate book. There are also online practice tests.
Take it from someone who was properly panicked and over-prepared for the day, study well and exhale. You can do this.
