ILR application Question ( 5 years or 10 years ?)
« on: May 02, 2019, 07:59:09 PM »
Hello everyone,

My FLRm extension was granted a few days ago and now we can relax ;) thank you for your advice and information. It was a huge help for us and very much appreciated.

Now, I have a question about the next step....

I have been in the UK for almost 9 years now. I started with a student visa followed by a work permit and then the spouse visa. I was wondering if next year, I would be able to apply for the indefinite leave to remain visa through the 10 years route.

Has anyone done it this way? I’m wondering which is the better option:

1. Try to apply through 10 years route in June 2020
-OR-
2. Wait another 30 months to finish FLRm 5 years route (until Sep 2021)

Any comments or ideas would be much appreciated.

Thank you:)

As long as you are sure you meet the requirements for the 10 year route, I'd go that way. Sooner you have ILR the better!  :)

I did 10 year LR. As long as you have held continuous visas (always let and entered on a valid visa), and haven't been absent for more than 540 days n total (or for more than 180 days in a single absence), you're good to go!! It's a pretty straightforward application.
2004-2008: Student Visa
2008-2010: Tier 1 PSW
2010-2011: Tier 4
2011-2014: Tier 2
2013-2016: New Tier 2 (changed jobs)
16/12/15: SET (LR) successful! - It's been a long road...
12/05/16: Citizenship ceremony!

Hi all,

This post has posted a while ago, but I was wondering if you could give us an advise on 10 year route SET(LR),
That would be much appreciated.

I am taking Life in the UK test next week, and also working on S ET(lr) online application form.
I am struggling to find any information what kind of documents I would need.

May I ask what documents you submitted ?

Thanks in advance.

Hi there, I'm in the same boat. I know that anything that can proof your legal residence in the UK is needed. Police registration, any certificates if studied on student visa, passport stamps etc; 2 passport photographs and I believe a sheet where you show your in and outs of the country - to prove you haven't acceded the limit. If anyone knows what else might be needed, please let us know :)

You need your passport(s) that cover the ten year period.

If you have that, then you don’t need nonsense like bills etc... to prove you were resident legally for the 10 years.

And yes to the spreadsheet of travel dates. I mostly used the passport stamps, but where these didn’t exist, or were an incomplete record, I had to rely on flight confirmations and a bit of guesswork. I was close to the limit, but was accepted with that.

Thanks for this. Do we have to just submit all our old/current passport with visas in it or is it best to highlight may be in a letter what visas I've had throughout the 10 year period? What if they miss something out, if there are so many visa stamps. Just a thought?

Also, I wanted to ask if anyone knows what should I do in my case. I recently submitted application for 2nd FLR-M extension in April, however with all centres closed, haven't been able to submit my biometrics yet. If I apply for ILR in beginning of august, how do I prove them I was in the UK legally since April 2020 till August IF I won't be able to find an available biometrics appointment? Do I just show my email confirmation of the submission? Would that suffice? Thanks so much.

I can’t remember exactly as I did this ilr in December 2015, but pretty sure there is a question on the form asking for your immigration history??

If you put in a valid application you are legally in the UK, unless you withdraw that application or don't comply with the terms of your previous visa.
