Hello! US-UK Expats Far from Home
« on: May 14, 2019, 01:35:14 PM »
Hi everyone!

I am a US citizen recently married to a UK citizen. We met a few years ago while teaching abroad in China (very romantic!), and that is where we currently live and work. After getting married in America this January before returning to China for our last semester, we've decided it's time to move back to the West and are planning to settle in the UK at the beginning of 2020. Sifting through all the information about visas and paperwork has been dreadful, and doing it from a third country so far away has made into a real nightmare at times!

Feeling very grateful to have stumbled on this forum, and nice to know we are not alone in all this.  :)

Kate

Welcome!

The toughest part for a returning UKC (your husband) will be meeting the financial requirements to sponsor you.

Options are:

1.)  He has earned more than £18,600 in the previous 12 months prior to your application AND has a job starting within 90 days in the UK paying a minimum of £18,600.  This is *only* his income and earning potential.  Yours cannot be considered.

2.)  One or both of you have at least £62,500 held in savings for a minimum of 6 months prior to the application date.

Sadly, they don't make it easy.

Welcome!!!
