Hubby is arriving into Manchester in about ten days.  He is on his first spousal visa - been here nearly two years.

Thank you so much, Katoo, for highlighting this.  I will let hubby know in case anyone at Manchester Airport doesn't.

Is this affecting only those actually travelling with Brit Spouses?

Thank you KoD for finding that info.

No, U.S. is now being instructed to go through the EU line.  This is true even without spouse.  Even with my brp in hand, they instructed me to go through the e gate.

My husband and I just traveled back from Rome to Glasgow.  I am a wheelchair user and had to wait for wheelchair services to come get me off the plane, my husband went ahead to get our luggage and clear immigration.  My husband had his US passport and his BRP card in hand and he was sent through the egates, nobody scanned his BRP card or asked him to complete a landing card.  He is on a FLR(m) visa as we can not apply for ILR until next March.  I hope this will not cause us any issues!!

My guess is it’s unlikely to be questioned, but if it is, I’d just say I did as instructed by immigration.

I saw the signs for this when we came back at Easter from the US. We are off to Morocco next Tuesday, via Madrid, from Heathrow so will be able to report back how this works with the EU PR card. Normally at the desk they just check the card, stare at Other Half, ask if we really do live here, and send us on our way with no stamp.

What was the consensus on this? I am literally sat at gatwick just having come through the e-gates, panicking that my BRP wasn’t scanned. I’ve asked and was told I wouldn’t have got through if it weren’t okay, but am I not convinced.

Try to get your vignette stamped. Someone coming through Gatwick a few days ago had theirs done with no problem at all.

Dont give yourself undue stress. It's fine. As they said, you wouldn't be allowed in if it werent (they would've directed you to a desk). Its your vignette on your first entry that's important, not subsequent visits after the fact using your BRP as far as I'm aware.

Ah I read it as they aren't entering for the first time but I'm on mobile so didn't read all the previous posts. If your vignette isn't stamped, definitely get this done.

No, you're right! Looking at her signature, it's not the first entry on the spouse visa!  I just assumed it was first entry as the question is only relevant then.  :)

Have been here 8 months, so not my first entry, but the first on this system. Think I looked like a crazy person flagging down multiple border patrol and police but all concurred with your advice as well! Such an expensive thing to mess up, just wanted to be sure. Thank you so much!!

Sorry still not sure about the right choice... My first BRP entry was in 2017 and I made a couple of entries after that, always seeing an agent. But, when my UK husband and I returned together from Canada on Aug 31 and when I showed Heathrow personnel my Canadian passport, BRP and landing card, we were told to use the e-gates. And so we did.
This December I am making a quick trip to Canada on my own. When I return to Heathrow on my own what gate/method should I use?
Thanks all!

Use the egates. The debate is only around the very first entry on the spouse visa.
