I arrived at Heathrow on December 30th and used the e-gates. I still have my boarding pass, itinerary and BRP receipt though. I picked up my BRP on January 3rd.

Good. Keep all of it safely. They say that they are going to have a record of entires but I don't trust that even a little bit!

I saw a sign at Heathrow immigration this week that lists who should get their passport stamped even if they can use the e-gates.  I looked on the gov.uk website and found this:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When you must see a border control officer
You must see a border control officer and get a stamp in your passport if you’re from a non-EEA country and entering the UK:

on a short term study visa up to 6 months
with a Tier 5 Creative or Sporting certificate of sponsorship for up to 3 months (and you want to enter without a visa)
on a permitted paid engagement
to accompany or join your EEA family member
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Does the final criteria "to accompany or join your EEA family member" mean that those entering initially on a spouse visa must get their passport stamped?

I entered in June 2019 shortly after e-gate usage started and was told I didn't need a stamp.  I saved my flight itinerary and boarding pass.

Here's a link to the uk.gov website.

https://www.gov.uk/uk-border-control/at-border-control

Apologies if this has been covered previously, but I didn't find any mention of it.

Thanks very much.

Technically, no, it doesn't, because people on spousal visas are not joining EEA Family Members, they are joining UK citizen family members... and those are two different, separate sets of immigration rules.

Thanks!

Speaking as someone who didn't get the stamp, my advice is to get it.  The extra time spent waiting in line is worth the peace of mind.

Yeah, I agree... I would advise doing your very best to get a stamp, and if they still won't give one, then that's on them, really. At least you will have tried.

Meanwhile, hold on to those travel documents.  Boarding passes, itineraries, etc.

Exactly. They say that you don't need the stamp and they know when you came in but I do not trust them! You should either get the stamp or at the very least, keep all of your own evidence.
